Always a great part of the build....primer !

That`s going to be a real beauty !

Paul T...........who is quite jealous when he sees others still being able to paint ,while I need to wear a parka whilst outdoors !! LOL

Thick walled is fine, but I think I would have gone with a 29mmt. Just saying

Simmed it with an AT G76. Called for 9 sec delay and had to add 75 gms of nose weight to get a 1.1 margin. Since the weight and CG were measured after the build, not really sure of the accuracies of the sims here. Called for 2500ft in 8-14mph winds.

sorry for the slight delay but the weather has been on the rainy side. I filled in the spirals with spot putty glaze and used FnF on the wood wings and fins. It sat for a week before I had time to sand it. Today was the day. It's still on the cool side ...around 56-60 degrees, but for primer I'm not too concerned. I still need to come back and do some more sanding and touch up in the tighter areas mostly around the aft ring where the wings meet the MMT.

Just wanted to let you know I didn't forget... slow moving but it's coming along.

Dan, getting quite SKONKY there...

Looks great!!

I, too am jealous of your weather, too cold to paint here.

I'm getting close to painting this kit. I sanded the nose cones with 220 and then 320. I might fill in the seams if they need it after I primer it. The fuselage is almost done. I just need to sand one more time and make sure everything is filled in. Then it gets a another red coat of primer and then a light coat of gray primer as a guide coat. After that dries I'll come back and wet sand it. Same applies for the nose cone. I find it's a lot easier to paint the nose cone using a scrap piece of body tube (pictured) I use to hang the nose cones, but this works better for me.

I also organized my work area and made it mobile. I picked up the work station / work bench at the last job I worked at. It works out great for smaller builds and I can move it anywhere in the garage or out in the driveway on a sunny day.

Now the fun begins. The Skonkwulf is ready for wet sanding and paint. I plan on following the original color scheme. I'll paint the underside white and then after it dries paint the top side the tan color. I need to look around and get the right color or something close.

After I wet sanded the kit with 1500 grit I applied gloss white to the underside. It turned out nice, but got a small run on the under-fin that I'll come back later and wet sand it out. No biggie.

I'll give it one more quick coat and after it dries for a few days or longer I'll spray the tan.

So far it's coming along pretty nice.

Dan,

Beautiful!!

Your painting skills are enviable.

I will try to attain the same when it's warm enough to paint (probably next July...).

I am following this one closely.

Cheers!!

I came back and wet sanded the under fin that had a small run and then I repainted the area and touched up a few other spots. It turned out nice. Gonna let it dry a 3-4 days or longer and then tape off the bottom and paint the tan up side. Not sure how I'm going to paint the the nose cone section? I'll do something cool for sure, but just depends. There's a lot of cool colors you can throw on this kit. So we'll see what I have laying around...but for sure I need to get some tan or some kind of desert camo paint.

The upper half of the Skonkwulf requires it to be painted tan. I checked out Rustoleums website and they had a couple selections that were close.

My first choice is the Ultra 2x paint and the color is "Gloss Khaki"

My second selection is from their line of camouflage paints and the color is also "Khaki" but it's ultra flat finish.

I kind of would like to have gloss since I'm using Gloss White for the lower half. Also the Ultra 2x paints really cover nicely. I could go on Hobbylinc and buy some Testers paints, but @ $4-5 for a small can it's hardly worth it.

Personal artist license is permissible regarding color selection if you can't find exactly what you are looking for.

I just got back from Home Depot and bought a can of the Painter's Touch 2x Ultra. I think it will provide a much nicer coat and gloss finish. I plan on building a few of these kits changing up the motor size and color scheme.

The weather has been nice so I decided to mask off the bottom half and spray the tan. I still need a couple more coats to give it that wet blend look, but so far it looks good.

I love this weather...nice and warm @ about 75

I applied a couple more coats. I might do one more.... I plan on wet sanding the finish so I just want to make I have enough paint laid down.

here's what it looks like., I still have more painting with the green trim and gray and black.

It will look better once I wet sand and shoot a clear, but that will be later. Thinking about changing the paint scheme up slightly. Maybe go with a red tip on the nose cone??

WOW, That's looking great Dan!! As always, your paint is flawless as is the build! Bill

Dan,

I really like it!!

Makes me think that I will definitely go with the stock scheme on mine.

I am watching closely.

Cheers!
