Hey Bob,

I can make sure I bring down a couple of our special G570 motors for the drag race. You know us Chicago crew, wink wink, nod nod.

Byron and I are planning on attending again this year and of course Tim will probably tag along. You gonna let me work at Pad Manager again this year?

Should be a great launch as usual...

Mike Smeltzer

Hey Mike,

Instead of you working as pad manager "solo", I thinking you, Byron and Tim need to tag team the job!

I'm sure that would be entertaining!

As always, we look forward to you guys coming down! The range is always fun with you guys there!

Bob

Really too bad that the event is the first week of Septmeber when most kids and teachers will need to be back at school. I was hoping to attend this year.

LDRS 31 or bust.

Labor Day weekend -- worst case, you miss one day of school (Friday). Pretty easy to be there for the weekend. Lots of people head down after their kids get out school on Friday, then head back home either Sunday evening or on Monday.

It's also a compromise -- Labor Day weekend to get nicer weather, or during the summer and risk ungodly heat like LDRS in 2003, where it was 103 in the shade on the cool day!

I vote for comfort

No doubt. BUt If I was to go that far, I'd want to stay for all/most of it.

I'll look at the schedule and see if it makes sense to go for just a few days.

Tell them to give you an Im ditching shcool discounted 1 day pass.

Tell them to give you an Im ditching shcool discounted 1 day pass.

Of course, all your recommendations regarding discounts assume that it costs the club any less to host the event whether you're there for a one day, two days, or the entire event.

Not to mention the logistical nightmare of keeping track of who paid for what days.

If you truly think that people should get discounts, as well as be able to pay for individual days, I'd suggest coming up with a plan for how to manage all of it, then volunteering to implement the plan, and be the one running it.

We would be happy to issue you a "Im ditching shcool discounted 1 day pass".

On the other hand, we will have to charge you the "I listened to Clay" bad advise tax so the money due to us will be actually higher.

Here's some free advice. Stay in school so that you can learn to spell it!

As they say been there, done that. LDRS 2003 was a hot one. Still had a great time, was hot, but the pool at the hotel sure felt great after a long hot day out in the sun.

And having attended quite a few Airfests over Labor Day that's a great time/choice also...

For the narrow band, no.you are eliminating revenu of the guys that would pay 45.00 for 1 or 3 days.. just like all the NAR GUYS WILL..but you are absolutely correct.
Do you rembember being in college, 45 bucks is more than your eating budget?
I paid 40.00 to launch an M3000 at airfest, thats a 10% launch fee for 1 rocket. (am i griping no.)
Volunteer = 0.00 in additional cost. agreed

Kevin, I will try some tact here to adress your last sentance. I personly think Planning on my end is a waste of my time, when I could be on TRF walking into a blindsided by BOB moment instead of watching porn as he suggests. So, i won't offer up the instances ive offered up planned, and been willing to -carry- and gotten crickets response. SO, i have great disdain for the dont offerit if you wont -carry-it approach.

The harsh reality is if an extra $20 or $30 in launch fees means you cannot afford to attend the launch, then the reality is you cannot afford to be at the launch.

I remember an LDRS where a guy was attempting to hawk cases in order to get gas money to get home. He had no business being there.

Sorry, but to me, the answer to your question is "fiscal responsibility".

I don't make that connection.
(but crackheads come in all shapes and sizes.)

In fact I didnt really pose a question. I see a lot of college kids pose that ... Ehh.. i cant take off from school that long. which = i dont really wanna pay 45 dollars to come down and launch a few J motors... - But i would love to come have a great time otherwise...
This is no different logistically than making an acception for sandwiching research before and after commercial.
But, would make sense, and be more attractive to those collegic weekenders.

Any logical person does that math, people that can piss money away without thinking about it are a small portion of our hobby(altough larger than most hobbies), most people in the hobby are like me, on a budget, and you plan, and make it work for you. You spend as much effort to manage and produce good results as you do earning.

what i suggested was a student discount--even movie theaters do that....

I have been in a pawnshop or two back in my day... Climbing the tallest peak in colorado dont come for free(altough it does, but busted alternators dont.), and if you wait for the perfect time, it may never happen.

when my tax dollars quit paying for aig execs, we will talk "fiscal responsibility"

If the launch fees are too much, then go to watch. Don't launch anything, and you won't have to pay any launch fees. It's still well worth going, just to meet the people, watch the incredible projects, and in general have a great time. Honestly, that's the main reason I go to LDRS and similar national events. Yes, launching is fun, but the best part is catching up with friends and watching some of the incredible things people have done.

Well, you could launch G motors and under... But, I stand with Kevin, if it is a Fiscal issue you cant afford stay home.
Chris, most college kids i know cant afford M-N motors, they work and have tight schedules. It would be a Nice guesture to offer them a cheap way to fly a couple rockets and join in.

The reality for me is me and my wife as a Kloudbusters made a commitment when we voted for the club to put in a bid. I will probably be there from wednesday to monday night, and Carly will probably be at registration a good ammount of time. I will probably slack and duck out of any real work, but our familly will have tons of FUN.. But, ill shut up now and go surf some porn.

Just pull the loki stickers off--- Make up a burnsim, give the propellant a name, and say it is EX...
I dont think theres a minimum impulse on ex at balls.
(but, if your not 18 I dont think they will let you fly.)
Rocketry is a family activity for me. So, i dont think i will go untill my son is big enough to make his first P motor. 12??

I am going to steer clear of blowing up my own motors for a few years. A. i need a shop with a lathe / mill.(altough there is one available i dont like to borrow) B. rocketry for me is family activity, and my son is too young, maybe when he gets a little older and can "calm" down a little.

But, my wife seems happier to think of me flying out to balls for a weekend over me driving the country with my son for 2 weeks.... So well see...

I see, Yeah, technically I can't fly. But my dad can fly a motor I made in my rocket if it's under his name. Federally, Anyone can make motors, The government doesn't care what the impulse is, just as long as you have the permits and waivers to fly them. So I guess, technically, if we were at a privately sanctioned launch, I could fly a research N :surprised: If we were at a Tripoli research launch, then my dad would have to fly them, and of course they would have to be within his certification level.

Yes, exactly, But... That doesnt mean you dont have the power to change it.

I'm not sure I want to be the one to single handedly take on their rules.

I just like watching them fly. I just set it all up, tell my dad what to do with it on the pad and watch it go! I just paid for my darkstar and the 38-480 yesterday, so I'm half way there!

Bob, You may want to think having Tim as a pad manager. You really want him around other peoples rockets while they're on the pad.

Looking forward to another great launch...

My kids are going to miss school thursday and friday. I told there principal it is a field trip. He tried to weasle his way in as a chaperon. He is retired military and would love to go. His comment was "if kids can miss school for sporting events, i see no reason they cant miss for educational purposes. Just remember to bring proof you went! Like video".
As far as the money if we get low we will sell the kids to get back home.
It was either that or send them home with Bob and when they started to drive him crazy, tell him it would cost him to give them back.:D

Unfortunately for me, there is a conflict (several actually) with the date.

I'll most likely be up in Calgary defending my title at the Scottish Games Masters World Championships for Labor Day weekend. And a friend has invited Mrs. OD and I to spend the week before in Scotland so we can participate in the annual March of the Clansmen at the Lonach Gathering. No trip to Scotland can be complete without having a go at The Dinnie Stones ...something I've wanted to try for years now.

Looks like I'll burning up money in a different way!

Very cool--you're excused (this time) :)

Just wanted to send out a resilient THANK YOU to Bob Brown and the rest of the KLOUDBusters Club, Per usual the KLOUDBusters did an incredible job on all aspects of the event and I for one had an awesome time! LDRS 30 was a huge success and will go down in the record books as such.

Thanks again! guys and I hope to see you all soon! Regards Gary T.
