Filling and Finishing

I bought some Elmers carpenters wood filler, which someone mentioned used to be called Fill 'n' Finish. I'm having a terrible time using this to fill the grain in the fiberglass body, plywood fins, and fillets. Am I supposed to add water to thin it before application? Can someone please give me some tips on using this stuff?

Yes.

Thin with water to the consistency of pancake batter. Brush it on and sand when dry.
