As far as I can tell, the body tube buckled and the payload bay burst apart. Nice and up to that point, but pushing Mach with a tight coning twist.

Old thread, but we are still 2018, and there are some pretty cool new two-stage kits from Estes in 18mm and 13mm, good Skill Level 1 kits for starting out in the multi-stage world:

I would probably replace the streamer with some of that reflective mylar "bird repellent" tape to help track and recover the sustainers.
