I wish I had something real to be afraid of.

I was just thinking to myself this morning, that our descent into chaos as a society is due to lack of real fear. Our country had been engaged in a very real, and very dangerous wars for most of our existence. I'd venture to say that nothing has scared the country sufficiently since the Cold War.

It's not like human society reacted very well to the threat in WoTW either.

When the aliens went down, it certainly wasn't the result of any well-planned attack by humans.

Basically everybody ran like hell, then all of a sudden noticed, "Hey, they're dying."

Most Americans either think of the world as our "friend" or even our "big brother." I get so sick of hearing people propose that we do things more like Europe. We were the greatest country in the history of the world, but it seems our very own people don't want us to be that any more.

I was not intending to get "Political".
I know there are a lot of fellow Science Fiction Fans here so I just wanted to share one of my favorite movie scenes, and with a thought provoking description.
Everyone today walking around with thier head buried in their smartphone.
Most people would be useless in an effective resistance to such an invasion.
It is true that politics will go out the window so to speak when and if an actual Alien invasion from extra-planetary foes does occur.

I enjoyed watching the clip in the OP. Thanks, TR. I remember being skeptical of this movie as part of my "Remakes: hate 'em; get some new ideas instead!" orientation. However, while quite different from the original book/movie, I found this to be a competent reimagining with more positives than negatives. I'm NOT a Tom Cruise fan at all, but his performance was more comical than annoying. It gave sort of a comic relief aspect to the film.

As to the point of "nothing to fear" I think it too has merit, though from my perspective there's plenty to fear. Big asteroids, climate change, a global infrastructure that's unsustainable with current sociopolitical outlooks, death of the bees, cable modem download caps...

I enjoyed this fun diversion. Thanks again.

I'm more afraid of idiots in America who think that they actually did everything on their own and that the poor are the problem. I wish they'd read a book and think for themselves instead of being zombified by their news sources... Disagree... What this post needs....

I fine with the highly unlikely things to fear (Alien attack, Zombie Apocalypse, etc.). They make great movies and video games.

Real things like infrastructure (power grid, bridges, etc.), use of fresh water resources (leading to food shortage once depleted), staying ahead in the technology race are more real and do need solved.
