Disassembled one of those window/door alarms with the hopes of figuring out how to make it activate upon ejection. I have to get some sleep before class tomorrow, but I have ideas flooding me right now, and I can't relax.

Note to self... Switch to decaf tea after 7pm.

(yesterday) picked up a box of misc. rocket stuff from my grandpa. Some old BT, fins and a couple rockets. there was whats left of some level 2 estes kit, which I started to refurbish. and I worked on my mean machine, just finishing it up for launch on Saturday. last Saturday I made a launch pad for that launch, because my mean machine tips over on the little estes porta pads.

Yesterday I bought the nosecone and fiberglass tube combo after talking with Alex and him convincing me to buy it. Way to go, buddy.

Finally finished putting together my gyro-based stabilization for my L3. Planning to fly without fins proved to be a bigger challenge than I thought, but if my calcs are right I'll have enough reaction to get an N off the pad at 2gs with no more than 2 degrees max variation from vertical!

Received validation. Unknown to me, one of the kids in my rocket class has autism. His mother came in today and told me that her son, Austin has never been so excited about anything until he took my rocket class and has talked about nothing but rockets since. She told me his counselor considered this a massive breakthrough. I've made a deal with the mom to continue working with him and rockets and maybe help him along a little further.

Never underestimate the power of rocketry my friends.

Received a box 'o goodies from the Semroc elves. I promptly squirreled away the Mars Lander kit, then extracted the new set of wraps for the Saturn 1b. I set them on my desk, and promptly got intimidated by the mere presence of the accursed Fuel Tube Fairing Shroud Of Doom.

Pulled the trigger and got my Semroc Omega, parts for a personal design, and my Excelsior Rocketry Decals ordered. I just hope I can get these built in time to fly before Summer Vacation.

I'm planning on starting a thread for the "backdating" of the Omega to a ca. 1970's Cineroc (complete with an 808 #16 replacement for the Super 8 camera). Externally, my goal is to have it look like a rocket that got lost inside of a Duesenberg that was parked inside of some old out-of-the-way barn for the last 40(ish) years. Internally, it will have additional modern features (a kevlar shock-cord isn't one of them).

Built a new rocket with my kid to replace the Alpha we crashed on Friday. Leah is learning about safely handling tools. (Ignore the party hat--she'd been to a birthday party earlier today). Her favorite part of building a rocket though is spray-painting. She wants a rocket with all the colors of the rainbow!

Ari.

Thanks for the cute pictures. Nice to get the next generation involved in the hobby... :)

I hope she enjoys it as much as you do!

Awresome

made a couple parachute cardboard templates, made a parachute for my mean machine, and removed a cracked fin from an old rocket. so much repair....

squeeeee... the final piece arrived.. my warped plans for world domination can now proceed..

Thanks. She got me into rocketry in the first place! I always thought rockets were boring--go up, go down. I like more active flying: R/C and full-scale, where I actually fly the thing. But it turns out that for a 3 year old, rockets are exactly the right chunk of attention span--the whole flight competes before she loses interest, and then she can go chasing after it in the park. So now we have a hobby we share :=)

Ignore the party hat? Are you crazy?! Only cool people think to wear a party hat while building a rocket (and yes, you should tell her that)!

She has great color selection, too!

What did I do today--? I thought about tomorrow--I have to cut a fin off the 20 mill and correct the builders blunder !:bang:

Filled body tube seam spirals on Renegade-D, QCC Explorer; balsa nose cone and transition on EPM-010. Recently been starting that before any assembly.
That QCC Explorer still messes with my mind, mental image remains that it is half the size it is.

Saturday--began applying primer to Fliskits Tartar. Began cutting and shaping parts for 1:96 scale Saturn 1b.

Sunday--more cutting of Saturn 1b cardstock parts.

Monday--formed core tank of Saturn 1b.

Thank you Kevin. I'll pass this along to her when I see her Wednesday. Spray-painting is her favorite part of building. She's very methodical about sorting though her colors :=) Everything has to sit just so, even if it's for a minute.

Prepping Pack 115's rockets for their paint session this afternoon. They launch in two weeks. Hopefully Mother Nature is kind and gives us fair weather. They'll be the first birds launched for 2013.

Some of Pack 115's painted rockets. There were few runs and drips, but all in all, they did a good job.pack115-43.jpg

did some work on my Sprint XL (purists might say it isn't an upscale, but for me it is close enough). did change the launch lugs a bit though(from the stock XL version).

Went to the THOR monthly meeting at a local BBQ restaurant and enjoyed the conversation and food. Level 2 launch tentatively planned for Saturday... fingers crossed. :cool2:

Let's see, started the camo paint job on the FSI Hercules. So far, so good there. Sprayed a coat of gloss white on the Holverson Tangent, and hopefully I'll be able to get the rest of the painting done today. (Two red fins, one black, with a red nose cone. Even I can handle that.) Attached a third fin to the Solar Warrior. (The big new one, not the original.) Primed the PDR USS Atlantis. Started construction on the R2D2 rocket for my nephew, which will hopefully fly on Friday.

Awwww man I forgot :(

Was working late though. Excited for fire on the farm though.

This.

Leftovers from boards for shelves plus new purchased dowels.
Now that I've done it, do I like it?
5 of the ones up there aren't finished. And there are more.

Go Box arrived today, hooked it up to the pickup battery to try it out. I'll have to wait until I get home from work to see if the continuity check will inadvertently ignite a Q2G2. Can't wait to try it out on the seven motor cluster!

Sewed parachutes, a little work every night. have 40 to make, mostly LPR and working on some MPR chutes. Ordered some braided kevlar.

Experimenting with thin-wall (sewer) PVC pipe as structural airframe material, a-la BadAzz. I'm building a 3" tuber as my first attempt. Hoping to fly it Saturday at Snow Ranch.

Oh, and finished Leah's rainbow Patriot with her before dinner. It now has a shock cord and a parachute and is ready to fly on Saturday at Snow Ranch.
