And for those that know the history of my ex, I have signed up for a CC class Sunday. My Springfield XD-S hasn't come in yet but I can get the permit anyway.
Man that is a great little gun....

WElcome to the CCW club my friend. My ex is like yours and I am glad I have had it LOL I carry pretty much all the time now.. kind of feel naked without it! oh I carry a Kimber ultra elite CarryII 1911 compact..
I do suggest loading with GOOD ammo. a good personal protection round does more than just stop a perpetrator. it is also designed NOT to penetrate walls etc so if you HAVE to shoot it indoors the chances of it going through walls is WAY lower. a small piece of mind when you have 4 kids at home.. not to mention all the animals!

Or if you want to shoot the bad guy hiding behind the drywall and studs in ur house......the personal protection rounds will go through drywall/plaster like nothing.....if you expect it to go through a person, it will go through a interior wall of a house w/o a problem.......take a rock or a small hard object and throw it hard at an interior wall or your house, it will go through to a certain extent w/o a problem, which isn't close to the velocity of the weapon one uses if the need arises......

Thanks! And I wish I could afford a Kimber....

Hmmm. In Alabama, you don't have a class....Had mine in 13 days. My wife got one in 8...:)

Congrats! 45 days eh? Here in Washoe Co, NV, the SO has 120 days to issue. It usually takes that long too.

Our State Police have 120 to issue the license but there is an online registration option that speeds the process.

With ours going open carry, and groupons that sold out... our back log is currently 3 - 6 months.

I really think it depends where you might be using the gun. If you live in a densely populated area you don't want rounds that will go through walls. Mostly because you don't want to hit a by standard.

You want bullets that will hit their intended targets and nothing else.

DO you mean "bystander"?? :) Just sayin'...

"Bullets that hit their intended target and nothing else" don't exist... bullets will hit anything their aimed at with sufficient accuracy, and anything in their line of flight if they're not, regardless of intent or not... and anything they happen to ricochet off of or into as well...

Later! OL JR :)

If you read the report from the Oregon incident, the CCW holder chose not to engage the shooter out of fear of hitting bystanders. The local SO, PD etc. applauded his decision, saying this was precisely the correct thing to do. The shooter evidently took his own life shortly thereafter.

I read that - major props to him. I wish everyone was that responsible.

I am not saying that Personal protection rounds wont penetrate drywall, But if you understand how they are made, they are designed to loose velocity QUICKLEY once they hit something. they mushroom expand and slow down. So if you had to fire inside, and a round misses you have WAY less chance of it doing damage on the other side of a wall than with a regular round. (yes no round is 100% safe) but this may sound crazy Iranian security put men on ALL flights now (well they did for a while) they are armed with rounds that are designed for use IN FLIGHT.. if you miss they wont even penetrate the hull of an airplane (or at least they are designed to have a very low chance of it)

just another useless piece of information! use it however you wish. I hope we never have to find out yeah or nay!

Mark, are these those those Dum..Dum rounds?

WHOO!!!
My Springfield XD-S in .45 ACP just came arrived!!!
Big boom in a little package.

Nice, Layne.

My 1911 is in the works, too. Just need to do the FFL transfer documentation and produce my CA Handgun Safety Certificate.

I even saw .45ACP FMJ on sale today at the local armory. :eyepop:

NAH!! Really? You better scarf up what you can.
Ammo is pretty scarce down here as well. Most retailers are limiting sales to three boxes.

What brand 1911?

I have about 10 boxes of 9mm Winchester Black Talons. How do they compare with modern self defense cartridges?

Just heard on the radio that you are 43 times more likely to get shot with your own gun in your home if you own one....wow.

The intruder carries a gun because you do, or you carry one because he does..... anybody pause to think about which way round it is?
This is definitely a:eyepop:sort of discussion from where I'm standing. Eye- opening indeed.

This is the sort of nonsense scare tactics that anti-gun liberals spew to try and keep folks from believing the truth.

I'm calling a total BS on the above statement about getting shot. 43 times more likely than what?

Than getting shot with your own gun if you don't own one? I think the figure is a lot higher than that, if you don't own a gun how can you possibly get shot by your own gun?

Or is it claiming that I'm 43 times more likely to get shot with my own gun than with the gun of the intruder? Seems high, but what are the chances that I'll get shot by his gun if I don't have one of my own? Probably higher.

I'll take my chances and own a gun thankyouverymuch. If someone breaks into my house they're the ones that will become a statistic. And you can bet the story won't be widely reported, stories of homeowners defending themselves successfully with a gun never are.

Hey guys, let's try to steer away from this argument, we don't want the thread closed or pulled.
This was originally started to document my efforts to deal with a crazy ex, not a political commentary.
I appreciate everyone's input but lets not head down the pro-gun/anti-gun path.

Good on you for getting your CCW. If every person got one we'd have a powerful voice. I've carried CCW for ages now, and because I mind where I go and how I act I've had no issues. I tend to carry a Glock 20 in 10mm: not because I'm a hero, but you're much more likely to face 4-legged critters than 2 out here. At 6'2" I have a large enough frame to bear it, but it is a tank with 16 rounds in it.

Regardless of what you carry, get you some Buffalo Bore ammo in that caliber. Beautiful, powerful stuff.

If you're talking about the old 147 grain subsonic, not good. The 147 gr subsonic came about from the SEAL's requirement for a very accurate, quiet round for their MP5SD3s (with which they would specifically shoot sentries in the head). Somehow everyone cottoned on to it back then, but the real world results were fair to poor. The venerable Silvertip is a much better choice in standard pressure, with the 115 grain +P+ JHP being the non plus ultra of 9mm (and potent it is).

Cool, I had a S&W 10mm years ago, until the cops showed up and said it had been stolen from the evidence locker.
Hated the S&W but loved the caliber. Still have a couple of boxes of Norma around somewhere.
Thought the 10mm was all but dead.

No these are the hollow point rounds that during the first asalt weapons ban became known as cop killers and were pulled from the market. They are a really good round for a 9mm carry.

Yes, those are the ones. Winchester voluntarily took them off the market. I bought up as many as I could while they were still on the shelves.

Yeah, you gotta' love political reasoning. Call for the removal of a type of bullet because it works so well.

That's a real shame about your 10mm; I'll bet it was a model 1076 (or were you lucky enough to have a 610 revolver?). I am also amazed at how it keeps hanging on, but it is a very flexible round.
