Did a bit of searching w/no luck so I thought I would ask...

Anyone know of a reference chart that indicates what color plastic plug goes in which Estes motors?

I have a few of them identified, however need (at least)
  • Black - E9/C11 (I think)
  • Teal - All 13mm?

The others I am aware of are
  • Pink - B6/C6
  • White - D12
  • Yellow - A8/B4

Are there others?

I can confirm that E9 motors use the black plugs. I just launched one this morning.

They use to. I do not know if they still do.

Well I can handle this. The pdf attachment is a bunch of enlarged versions of said plug chart. I used this to print a few pages and hand out to other rocketeers at the last 2 launches I went to. They were quite popular since they were legible. The ones in the motor packs were too small even with reading glasses.

The blue plugs were also used on the B8-5.

Yellow is also used for the new E12s.

The long OOP E15s used orange plugs, but they were different than the plugs that were used on most of the mini motors.

Add E12 to the "yellow" entry and add "B8/C5 blue" and you'll have all the ones I know about. Of course B8 and C5 are long OOP so maybe you don't need to add that.....

The plug chart indicating the colors and their uses is somewhere on the long safety instructions paper folded and inserted in the package of motors... unfold it and scan up and down both sides until you find the chart.

I cut the chart out of a sheet of the motor instructions and taped it right inside the lid of my range box, just above the little bin where I keep all the motor plugs (I keep the ones that come with the motors in there in one piece (they have a little tag cast into the plastic on one end that tells the motor size they're used on BTW, so if you pull them off from the OPPOSITE end that tag will remain there until you use the last one, and you can simply grab some of the remaining plugs to see what ones they're used on). I also put the motor plugs I pick up around the launch pads after the club launch is finished for the day and they leave, I grab all the plugs I can find off the ground and dump them into that bin in my range box... cleans up the mess and provides me with plenty of 'extras' as well).

Taping the chart to the inside of the lid of your motor box makes a handy reference to grab the correct plug you need...

If in doubt-- use a spitball size chunk of recovery wadding tamped into the nozzle with a ballpoint pen-- one size fits all...

Later! OL JR :)
