No they didn't, they got used.

A company that had nothing to do with it (founded in 1996), but brokers lots of mechanical and electrical equipment and has an engineering supplier search engine, got its name and the name of its president mentioned as much as the only one of all the engineers that got mentioned at all, and they conned NASA into letting them do it on NASA turf. It was a publicity stunt.

Even if it wasn't portrayed exactly like it happened, the movie was a lot more honest recognition. NASA should be twice ashamed: for not doing it themselves, and for allowing this obvious marketing gimmick. I can't say I expect any better from AP or CNN.
