There seems to be a number of oddrocs that have a broad following. I was wondering where they originated.

--Does anybody know who made the first flying spool?

--How about the first person to convert a crayon?

I can't begin to tell you Where or how Odd-Rocs came into the Model Rocket community but I know it goes back at least to the early 60's. The "Birdie" has been an ESTES Odd-Roc Kit for as long as I can remember.

I think my very first Odd-Roc was a mid-1960's 12oz. Plastic Coke bottle or a Cereal box with flip-out cardboard fins both flew on C's..can't recall which came first LOL!!! Some things just didn't get recorded or photoed back then:(

I'm sure there are plenty of other folks who started out by looking at a piece of discarded packaging or some interesting piece of light weight junk thinking "Hey" that would be pretty KEWL to see fly":)

Back then Converted Plastic Models were also considered Odd-Rocs.
