I had another rummage around in the spares box and this was the result. I wanted it to have a retro sort of look to it, like something you would have seen in the first edition of The Handbook of Model Rocketry or as a line drawing in a 60s rocket catalog. Going for old school in look and construction.

Thinking silver with some yellow and black checkers and red nose for paint...

I think you nailed the look you were after, and the proposed paint should make it complete.
 
Finally got some paint on this thing. Decided to do something other than the silver and red...

Like I said, I wanted it to look like something from a picture in the old Handbook of Model Rocketry, so I just went with simple stripes and color variations that seemed to be typical in a lot of those pics. No idea what the actual colors would have been since all of those pics were black and white, so I just guessed...

Maybe I should have figured out a way to paint it grainy shades of gray and ever so slightly out of focus!:p

Ya know you could always just edit the pics to grayscale, and leave the colors up to the viewer's imagination. :wink:
