To help with recovery/visibility of the first stage, I just stuff a 1" crepe paper streamer in the gap between the stages. They don't last very long, but it does last well enough for a flight or two. The party streamer from the dollar store works great. A VERY long mylar streamer is good for the upper stage (think shiny emergency blanket). Just cut a 2" wide strip the long way down the blanket and use the whole thing for a streamer. Tape the short end to the shock cord using a strip of packing tape or better strapping tape that wraps around the cord and sticks to both sides of the streamer and you're good to go.
