I was supposed to be prepping the carport facade for paint, but I procrastinated successfully and put it off till cooler weather. Patched some holes in our storage area floor instead.

The new build is going well, with the whole house HVAC roughed in, including evap unit, zone motors, ductwork, wiring and liquid and gas lines to the condenser.

Are you going to be shooting with your .22 caliber with a silencer on it?
No. I didn't take it this time. I took ones that I needed to sight in the optics. I took my Mini 30. It has a suppressor on it. I was going to see where a subsonic round hit compared to where a supersonic round hit the target. It took more time than I thought to get it sighted in so I didn't shoot any subsonic rounds. Next time. I took an AR with me that I built from Wilson Combat parts. I put a 2 x12 scope on it that I needed to sight in. I also took my AR 45 in .45 acp. It has iron sights but I still needed to adjust then. I have a .45 suppressor that I try it with the next time. Now I have to clean them.

Today I took my wife to a doctors appointment. Did some grocery shopping. The big thing that happened today was. My wife got a text from American Express. It said did you charge $3600 on your card. She picked no. About a minute later American Express called. They confirmed that she didn't make the charge. And then said you didn't make two other charges for $1800 each either. So some criminal charged $7200 using her card information. Of course we aren't libel. How the heck did they get her info. I know there was a data breach at Bank of America a year or so ago. I think maybe that's how they got her info. We already have a fraud alert on our cards. And our charges are monitored for fraud. I think American Express would have contacted us before they approved that large of a charge since it doesn't match our spending habits. All three charge were at a casino back east. I wonder how much the credit card companies lose each day to fraud. A couple years ago I had my identity stolen. Someone used it to file for unemployment in Ohio. I got that taken care of as soon as I found out. So keep on top of your charges.

Did a walk around the new house with the supervisor today. Pointed out some sub-optimal work amongst the plumbing and HVAC rough-in. For instance, I specified 20mm water feed from point of entry to the tap on the back wall. They did well on that, except for the last 18" that they did in 16mm :-( . He will get that sorted. Some of the HVAC ducting was being unnecessarily choked in a few locations too.

The chippies were there today doing the final wall flattening on the studs, in preparation for drywall on 28th Feb, and finishing off any additional trimming.

The good news is that they want it done and dusted by the end of June :) .

This will eventually have to do with rocketry, but not quite yet. We moved to a new house back in October and I needed to divide up a 500 SF finished room in the basement into three spaces - 100 SF for the wife, 130 SF for the kids, and the rest for me…. Well, I’m just about done with the two smaller spaces - I painted last night and just need to install flooring and baseboard. And then, next week, I’ll start building a workshop!

You are so lucky to have a basement, keep the pictures coming.

I hear ya…. The last house (we were there for 22 years) didn’t have a basement or garage. I had an insulated/heated/air conditioned shed for my hobby stuff. Green side is the kids area - they’re 21,19, and 15. Pinkish side is the wife’s room.

Check Engine light came on today.
Hooked up the OBD scanner, trouble code indicates a small leak in the evaporative emissions control system.
Could be a leaky gas cap, purge valve, or leaking hoses.
Gonna try the easy (cheap) fixes, if that doesn't clear it then I'll live with it.
It's a 17 year old car and is running fine.
So there.
;)

Today I took my wife to her dentist. Then while she was there I went to Home Depot for a few things. I picked her up when she was done and came home. But last night turned interesting. I was sitting at my desk in the garage and heard a bump. I didn't think to much about. When I'm out here I'm quiet. Then I hear a thump. Oh Oh there is something out here with me. I knew what it had to be. There is another pack rat in here. I got my full auto BB rifle and started hunting. I could hear it but couldn't see it. I sat back down. It started running all over. Every time I tried to find it I couldn't. I did catch a glimpse of it. It's about the size of a small fat cat. I put out some baited traps last night. I didn't expect to get it. When they were in our well house I put snap traps and sticky traps and never got one even though they were taking the bait out of the traps without triggering them. Pack rats are smart. I didn't start hearing it until about 11pm tonight. I got some bait at Home Depot that I hope works. If it doesn't tomorrow I'll take the cat fort apart and put the car in the driveway. I'll keep both garage doors open and then start throwing fire crackers around the garage and try to scare it out. Wish me luck.

In getting this house ready for resale I need to simplify the wiring in the main distribution frame (MDF) I installed 25 years ago. I used to have a telephone system with different extensions, intercoms etc. Old tech so I need to pull that infrastructure out. We don't even have a landline nowadays. I will leave the wiring in the walls though.

So I pulled out the associated circuit board, and with the handy-dandy hook tool on the Krone punch I pulled out the relevant wires, plus some extras. Now the front sprinklers don't work :(.

Now I have to find the old, and probably outdated (maybe even undocumented) wiring instructions for between the MDF and the IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame), sprinkler controller and solenoid valve. I have to trace and fix the wiring while sitting cross-legged in a very tight space. Bummer.

I also need to remove the doorbell system, but that is a job for another, cooler, day.

My daughter dropped around and borrowed my Jeep for a road trip to Sydney, to see two Taylor Swift concerts with a friend. That will make five she has attended.:questions:

I will do some maintenance on her car whilst I have it here.

I replayed yesterday's walk-through of the new house in my head as I went to sleep last night. I realised they have not allowed for the inset mirrored shaving cabinets in bathroom and ensuite. Notified the site supervisor.

Sold my childhood for cold hard ca$h. 😢

Put my 1977 to 2015 complete collection of 2000AD & Judge Dredd comics up for sale on FB Marketplace and got my asking price within 24hrs. Feeling sad that its gone after growing up with it and all the effort over the years to fill the gaps, but I think this was the right time to pass it on.

Will use the funds for a Level 3 project. ;)

Took kids to Gettysburg, PA this past weekend. We were working through some scout requirements for a 5-part badge and medal that include around 18 miles of hiking, couple of museums, etc... Pretty interesting guide book made us stop at multiple points and imagine ourselves as Union or Confederate soldiers and asked the kids to reflect on what it might have been like. I did these same requirements as a kid but do not remember it being as extensive as what we experienced this time (also possible that the leaders fudged it some and we skipped things back then). Really pleased that the kids stayed engaged and interested despite the cold, mud, lots of walking, lots of driving, loads of history, etc... Hiking the route of Pickets Charge and the Cyclorama were a couple of highlights. Also took a break and went to a retro arcade one night - was fun to show the kids some of the games from my youth.

Good luck. Have you tried a bit of bait in the middle of a large piece of glue trap stuff? I mean, bait with more than a rat's length of sticky in every direction.

Ah, now I get it. Cabela's is only a little out of the way going home.

EDIT: No, not really out of the way at all. I mixed up Gettysburg, near the Penn.-Maryland border, with some imaginary point near the Penn.-N.Y. border. I know better, as I used to live not too far from the former, and now live near the latter. Oh well, call it a senior moment. In other words, from where I live to where you live (which I only know approximately) it would be slightly out of the way.

20 years ago I had a big one in my garage. I put out traps for awhile with no luck so I decided to get serious. I went through the garage and took out everything that I thought would tempt the rat away from the traps. I found that the rat had eaten a hole in the plastic trash can where I stored dogfood. I had a 5lb bag of dogfood on the floor and when I picked it up to move it I found that it had a hole in the back and was almost empty. After moving everything else out of the garage I caught the rat, body + tail combined was 16" long.

Yes, I have done that. They got the bait and didn't get stuck. Of the three traps I put out last night one was a couple of feet from where I put it and had been sprung and the bait was gone. I think the little devil pushed it until it snapped and then took the bait. I haven't heard him today. Probably because I've been making noise out here. I saw a report on the news about a new species of Anaconda. It was found in a jungle in Ecuador. It is 7.5 meters long and weighted 500 Kilos. Yikes. A film crew doing something for Disney with Will Smith found it. I got my old Lionel train down and unpacked it. Cleaned it up and took pictures for the auction house. I just heard the pack rat. It's close too. Well, I sat quietly for five minutes and didn't hear it again. I have track and the transformer worked20240221_225259[4188].jpg20240221_224713[4191].jpg20240221_224759[4189].jpg20240221_224754[4190].jpg20240221_225803[4193].jpg the last time I had it out which was according to the newspaper the track was wrapped in was 2002. Here are some pictures of the train and the loading dock it came with. My Aunt gave the train to me for my first Christmas. There is also a picture of a slot car I got in 1963 or 1964.

$6500 seems cheap to me.
Today I took my wife to a doctors appointment here in town. The county is filling in the craters in the roads around here. Fast work. When I went into the house to make dinner my wife was watching Woodstock. I watched it as I was making dinner. She told me she say the movie at the Hollywood premier in 1970. I forget a lot of stuff so she reminds me of things often. I don't remember where or when I saw it. After dinner and Jeopardy we started watching it again. I wondered how many groups made it big after the concert. Turns out it was quite a few. There was a part with Jefferson Airplane and Grace Slick. I had a crush on her for years. When I saw her tonight I realized that she could have been the sister of my first girlfriend from the 8th and 9th grade. It was a very interesting 2 years. Her family moved the summer after the 9th grade. I saw her again when I was in 12th grade but the spark just wasn't there anymore. Give me an F. You know the rest. At one time I knew the lyrics of the song that followed. 1,2,3 What are we fighting for. We were talking about how many people were there. between 460K and 500K. 3 deaths. 2 overdoses and one guy got ran over. It's a sad state of affairs to think what would happen now if that many young adults were at a similar event. The only person I knew that went was one of my dads cousins. Do any of you know anyone that went or did you go yourself?
