Cute little feller. Tawny frogmouth chick. Indigenous to Oz land.

Tawnys are seriously nice birds. I know quite a few people with 'semi-tame' tawnys, in that they will come out at night and socialise with people in the hope of getting food. But, feeding wild critters makes them dependent so that's off the agenda.

Yesterday, buried a relative. Technically, a first cousin once removed (by marriage) but emotionally a third grandma. There was a big age difference between my father and his cousin, and they were very warm, welcoming people who lived close to us. She was 104.

Thanks to a titaniun plate and six screws I now have a rejoined collarbone.

First day back at work. I can say that the reputation of this surgery being painful is well earned. The 8 hours immediately after the nerve block wore off were the most pain I have ever been in. That probably means I have been pretty fortunate to this point, but that topped any of my previous broken bones, dislocations, sprains, strains, ligament tears, surgery, etc. probably combined...just, holy crap that sucked. Fortunately, it only took a few more days to get down to just Tylenol for pain, so while the peak was high, the decent was rapid. I assume this was a lot of pain from manipulated nerves, etc because the pain was nowhere near where it made sense for it to be. Crazy stabbing and burning in my upper arm and outside of shoulder. That makes no sense with where the work actually took place, so I am assuming "wire damage along run" is the most likely culprit...man, nerve pain is weird.

I had almost forgotten about the rib (except when I try to sleep), and then I sneezed for the first time since my wreck last night...yep, rib definitely broken too, gotcha.

Counted in a dollar store inventory. Hit 108% of my target UPH (Units Per Hour, how fast I count) for most of the day. Ended the day at 98% because I had to count low piece count areas. Harrumph!

I got rained out. My shot is flooded from the hurricane. It will need to dry out now.

I did have to take care of my son who is 24 hours post surgery. I had to redress his wounds 2 days after surgery.

We went to a short ceremony dedicating a section of roadway to a County police officer who suffered a heart attack on duty and died a little over 4 years ago. He's related to my wife by the marriage of her aunt and uncle. She even had to dispatch the call when someone found him in distress.

Sorry to hear of your loss. 104...good innings though!

Did some refurbishment of the soft top latch sets and hard top deck plates on my 1998 Mazda Mx5 NB.
Replaced the lock buttons with new ones from "Flying Miata" (hence the FM logo). The deck plates had lost their chrome and had some corrosion spots. Replacements likely to cost about A$130+. Fine sanded all fittings back and shot them with two coats of Dupli-Color black caliper paint.

Still playing with the new (2019) plug-in hybrid car (after about 3 weeks now). I actually mangaged to go through 18 days without moving the pistons. Problem is I have a full tank of gas and if I don't use it, bad things might happen. Who knew gasoline had a shelf life! 3-6 months or so some say.

So I'm on hybrid mode now. But unless I do a road trip, I won't be able to empty the tank for months. Even in hybrid mode, this thing is crazy efficient. Unless I needed something bigger for work, it would hard to justify going back to 100% ICE.

Learning all I can about hybrids, PHEVs and EVs kind of puts a pause on my rocket building though. :dontknow:

There are bacteria that live at the interface between any water droplets in your tank and the fuel. They feed on the fuel and it is their excrement, and detritus of dead bacteria, that send the fuel off. Clogged filters and blocked injectors are the typical outcomes IIRC.

If the batteries are low, won't that kick in the gas engine?
So just don't recharge your batteries overnight every 6 months or so and use up that gas.
Then refill with fresh gas and you're good for another six months.

Triple feature of Shakespeare today in the park. Abridged versions of Twelfth Night and The Tempest and a full version of Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s really nice to have the shows on again.

Umm, everybody? At least, everybody who keeps a gas powered lawn mower in the shed over winter.

I don't know about burning this stuff in the high tech engine of your car. Do Your Research before putting it in your tank. Still, its mere existence is conclusive evidence that lots of people are familiar with the problem.

What about oil circulation? With some engines, letting them sit for a long time without running can lead to poor lubrication during the next startup. I guess the makers of plug-in hybrids should have considered that.

made my first 2 videos and posted them on Youtube today. I haven't learned how to do any editing, I just made one five minute video and one 10 minute video and then posted them. My good stereo buddy got on me about trying to do that with my camcorder and having that silly MOD extension, and not being able to post videos, so he said just do it the easy way and take it with your iPhone and posted directly.

Updating all my Windoze PCs operating systems. I like to do this manually as it can happen at inopportune times if you leave it to the virus that is known as Windows Update. I once had a PC spend 40 minutes doing an update. Normally not a problem, but when you are in the middle of a field and only have one battery charge to use for your flight telemetry it is a real mongrel act.

I have also deprecated my family PC recently and supplanted it with a new hand-me-down from work. Flipping the MS Office license over to that new one...

Hope to do some rocketry stuff a little later.

Took the kids for Covid testing today. Been out all weekend and came home 'sick' (of school, probably...).

Removed the non-functional POS Miele dishwasher and replaced it with a Dishlex stolen borrowed from my MIL's house. Now catching up on dish washing.

Watching Barn Find Hunter and making a mean pasta with salami and peppers. Sweat it all out!

What Dishlex did you "borrow". I have a spare control board for a Global 500 if you need it. Did a project years ago to reengineer it for Southcorp.

Thanks for the offer, Buddy. The Dishlex seems to be working fine, but the Miele came with the house when we bought it and has been trouble from (our) day one. Never had to do so much work on a kitchen appliance. See if I can get it up and running one more time and I'll take it over to her's.

Interesting work, re-engineering. We once had a competitor try and re-engineer one of our point of sale terminals. They complained to me that when they broke the security seals on the inside case the UV sensitive EEPROM erased itself.

I laughed. A lot.

It wasn't anything spectacular, just RISC OS 4, but when the OS is gone, well... it doesn't work any more.

Retrieved some shelving that will go in the shop, so I can clear out the garage, so my rockets will be in their new room, so I can fiddle with them.

Finished my mouse plague research!

Seven (7) day sample mice caught in humane traps, identified and disposed of/released: n=71

Number of native mice: n=0

Number of Antechinus / marsupial mice / native endangered species: n=0

Number of Satanic Hordes of Filthy Vermin: n=71

Findings: These little

are out of control. Threat to native species = 5/8 sod all.

Action: Set 40+ killer traps.

Outcome: To be determined.

At what point do you just burn it all down and start over? 😅

Well, I'm not a quitter... :)

That n=71 was in two rooms in the house. There are so many mice ATM you can kill a few with your boots on the way to the outside toilet at night. Handy hint: Wear boots.

The local(ish) Feed and Grain has bulk 'snappy' traps at $45 for 20 traps. I'll grab a few packs tomorrow when I go to town.
