What are you doing for the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing?

A pending storm may have kept the TV crews at bay, but we went forward with the launch.

We got some very good coverage from our local Channel 3 News station for our monthly club launch celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo moon landing plus we had an outstanding turnout.

On the morning of the 16th, I decided I wanted to launch our Saturn V that day. I planned to ask a neighbor if we could fly the rocket in his field. But then I found an email from a local club announcing a special Apollo 50th Anniversary launch that afternoon, So, Bracha and I joined a handful of others to commemorate the anniversary by flying rockets. We flew our Estes 1/200th scale Saturn V on a Q-Jet D16-4.





It was a nice flight and a fun way to spend a few hours in the afternoon.

Yesterday braved the heat 35C with 85% Humidity (or higher)... to go to my school on my day off, and work with the student I gave the Saturn V kit to. His model had all the parts, no serious fit issues (a few parts were a bit tough, but did hold). His flags were upright. No sooner than we finished it, he picks it up to do a "zooming" movement, and the 2nd and 3rd stage broke free and fell to the table. 20 minutes of work later, we got it back together. I was able to improve his kit with a small parts re-arrangement and adding one extra part (holding the capsule to the "water").
