It has been busy but I think I can make time for my next vintage build, the Estes Raven.....Look how short the shock cord is in the kit.

I'm in...

PLEASE Scan the fins and the decals for me (with a ruler)... I need measurements so I can sim these builds of yours.

Thanks!
Jim

Been waiting for this one. I had one back in the early 90s, never got the chance to fly it. Been wanting to clone it, think I still have the nose cone. The decals are the only tricky thing cutting out all the lettering from monocoat trim sheet. I did do a bt20 downscale with a 9 inch tube to make up for the RL cone.

I have been real busy, so rocket building has been slow. I finished the Raven, balsa fins treated with 3 coats of Brodak Balsa sealer, rocket received one coat of primer and toped with Old Krylon Glossy black and grey. I did scan everything and will post.

Resurrecting this thread to assist with a sim for this kit.

Raven 2029 appears to be one of a number of kits to recycle fin pattern 32239, aka BF-78. You can recycle your pattern from Vigilante 1278 or Mean Machine 1295. Photos showing the fin from a 32239 sheet compared to my assembled model attached. The slight variation can likely be attributed to sanding. I’ve also attached some photos of the sticker decals with a ruler.

Ok... I'm on this... However, I need to know the height of the chrome portion of the letters in the name decal.

I also need the dimensions of the shock cord.

Here's what I have so far, based on ZoomieG's photos and the instructions found on plans.rocketshoppe.

Metallic stickers! Yes, please. Those are actually not that hard to recreate with some Trim Monocote and printable decal paper, see the Model Rocket Building Blog for some examples of that, black on chrome looks pretty good. I like those classic kits, nice job!

I tried to get a shot of the letter height. It’s complicated by the italic lean, but the letters appear to be 1/2” tall. As originally noted by SCIGS30, the supplied shock cord is way too short. Based on the 1” scale of his work mat, it’s only ~11” long before assembly. Since my sample was assembled back in ‘90 or ‘91, it is stock, and uses the supplied cord.

EDIT: Another interesting (cost-cutting?) note about this kit: There is no thrust ring in the motor mount. Retention is limited to the engine hook. At first I thought maybe it had been blown out, but the instructions and part list make no mention of it.

K'Tesh, Ye Olde rocket Plans has the Raven plan and instructions may help you Estes Raven #2029 (rocketshoppe.com)
I don't trust drawings of fins* and don't particularly like pre-cleaned drawings of decals. I prefer raw scans that let me clean things up. Besides, plans.rocketshoppe's file doesn't have all the info I desire for my sims. That said, with the images (and answers) provided by ZoomieG, I'm pondering dropping my sim (I'm not overly thrilled with the name decal (as it came from PRS's image)).

*I've found the quality of the drawings are completely dependent on the person who posted it, and can be completely wrong. Raw scans are hard to argue with.

K'Tesh. If you need anything else on this kit, let me know. I have a couple still in the package that I can use for reference.

Thanks!

I'd love a fresh scan of the fins and the decals (with a ruler for scale) that I could share with JimZ's site, I'd also like a 2nd opinion on the length of the shock cord (11 inches just seems to be *WAY* too short).

All The Best!
Jim

Here you go. The decals are really hard to get a scan of due to them being chrome.

Will try to get some good pics with my phone.

Thanks for those... Small problem... You've cut off the very tip of the fin in each of those scans... If I could get a scan in the fin 1 position where the entire fin is visible, I can do the rest with my graphics program.

A scan of the decals should be sufficient. I'll have to clean them up for my purposes, and it eliminates the possibility of any distortion that could be introduced by a slightly off center photo.

EDIT: Actually after seeing the photos you've got, I think I've got what I need for the name deal in the 2nd photo. THANKS!!!
EDIT: EDIT: I'm really tired right now... Now that I think about it. I could use the scan of the fins you've provided, and extrapolate the length of the fin. Still however, for the JimZ site, I'd like to request a scan with the fin completely visible (with the ruler at the root edge).

THANKS!!!

I'll forward those on to JimZ ASAP. The .ork file has been posted on my OpenRocket files page...

I should say that it was only with a lot of help that this sim came about. I'd tried to secure a physical sample of my own, but was always outbid whenever one of these rare kits came up for auction. So, thanks to all those who contributed to making this sim possible (and now, we can clone it with a high degree of accuracy).
