Voltmeters came in today. I’m just tacking this all together with ca for now. I have two switches I need to decide between now. One set I have now and the other I ordered today.

Waiting on parts so I started working on the baffle for the backup motor ejection charge.

Terminal blocks came in. I do believe this will be the best way to do what I’m planning.

Interesting. Why did you chose a baffle? Just curious is all.

I did it because I don’t like carrying around enough dog barf to stuff a 4” tube for every flight and it’s a zipperless design so the fin can will have a coupler on one end anyway so why not just utilize it? I’m not trying to win any altitude or speed records with it so it adding a little extra weight is of little concern to me. Plus it’s the design I feel most comfortable building.

I like using a baffleI I guess because it makes me feel like I’m not just launching a big half empty tube into the sky. It involves at least some level of engineering and thinking to do it, even if minuscule and I like that. I even baffled my old Estes 30 year anniversary Saturn V after I bashed it into a 5 motor cluster. That one was a pain to make lol.

So I want to make the voltmeter panels removeable and serviceable to I built this stuff. Using nylon shear pins on the bottom of the panels for the screws so they can just pop off. The tops are secured up in the new channels I cut in the bulkhead.

I like the concept of monitoring battery voltage. My Quantum and Eggfinders give readings over the tx/wi fi but I do usually run another altimeter for backup. Might have to look into those..

I received the buttons I ordered and they are too long so I’m using those pcb mounted tactile buttons I found in my junk drawer. Too bad, I really wanted to use a red or yellow push button. I’ll see if I can’t find something to put on them.

I'm not sure where this is going but I am ready to be offended at anytime. So far so good though, looks awesome.

More stuff showed up today. I’m going to work more on the av bay tonight and tomorrow and I think tomorrow night I’ll glass.

So I have to run the wires to the terminal solder points so I cut elongated holes for each post and bent the posts downwards so I can get my wiring as low as I can get it. Doing that allows me to save a little room in the battery compartment after the bottom plate goes on.

I’m order to clear the wires I made a base plate for the batteries to sit on and the wires to run under. I will drill down through the centering rings on the cannon and into the transition. Doing this will allow me to remove the base plate to get into the wires if I ever need to replace or resolder a connection.

More to come tomorrow. I hope.

Button time! Got these off ok and getting them soldered in place. To make the mounting holes I used a piece of paper and a pencil eraser to make a pattern. I just laid it on top of the fiberglass panel and touched the tip of a sharpie to each hole.

Out of curiosity, how much draw do the voltmeter panels create?

They said just a few mA but not sure. I have it wired to only get power when the momentary switch is depressed so it isn’t constantly drawing power.

So I’m getting an Eggfinder mini one of these days but for now I’m gonna fit my Garmin on the sled.

Garmins are cool. Your not going for altitude records so as I say it fits it ships. I do like my TeleGPS and Telemini size but my wallet hates me right now.

Looking good!

Those little voltmeters are really handy. I usually keep some around at work so if the Firmware guys are playing with DACs or whatever they can get good confirmation on the equipment they are breadboarding.

You can even get three-wire versions that go up to 100V.

Yeah, that Garmin has worked pretty alright for me. I’ve even fit it in the nose cone of my Estes Interceptor E that I turned into a dual deployment high power rocket.

I like them. I know it doesn’t need them really but it draws attention so maybe people will see it and get more interested in rocketry? You gotta have fun with it you know?

Lots still to do. I need to fiberglass everything this weekend if I’m going to fly it next weekend at Argonia. I’ll have to ground test all day long one of these days this week also. And build the avionics cartridge it will use also.
