VERY sweet new-waiver agreement.

I'm so going to miss it this time around. If anything was going to make me fly again, it would be this launch.....great folks, launch site, vendors, raffle, potluck, everything. Dang, the pull is strong right now.

Anyone who hasn't flown this event before....do NOT miss it. This is as good as it gets in my book.

I saw a note on location/map page that camping is permitted can anyone confirm?
Camping has always been permitted on the lakebed....don't know for certain if that's still true, but don't have any reason to think it's not.

There's pretty much always an RV encampment, and a few folks in tents. Definitely my own choice (I sleep in my van).

And/or: as noted, the Gold Strike hotel/casino is just a few minutes away, and they are relatively cheap. There's nothing there but the hotel/casino and a small gas station/c-store, but if you want to stay indoors it's very convenient.

Or, Vegas itself is not terribly far away and it of course has a very wide range of accommodations. I myself can't imagine why anyone would want to be anywhere near the place, but "different strokes" and all that I guess.

And you make get lucky and have the trip pay for all your AP too!
Years ago my son AJ and I went to Springfest. Slept in the back of my truck. We got up early and went to the local Casino for some cheap breakfast. On our way out I could tell AJ was curious about the slot machine. I told him it's a waste of money and the casino always won! I took out the change in my pocket to show him. About the 3rd pull I won $35. I tell him that's very rare and me laugh and back to rocket launch. A couple years later we end up in another Casino on our way out to Black Rock. He brings up the above story! I again pull the change from my pocket and guess what happens? Nope! I win $50 this time. I'm sort of Happy we was not all that interested in the working girls in the Casinos!!

You guys are awesome, cant wait to meet everyone. You can camp on the Lake Bed, in your tent, RV, truck etc. The lake bed surface is a hard pack surface. True, if you wanted too go down the street there are some options, I believe they re-modeled one of them recently.

I remember my first springfest... Mark@SS really set the hook on HPR for me.

S6 are you absolutely sure you cant make it?

An update on BalsaMachine, talked to Bill earlier, Balsa will have your Pre-Orders at the launch, but they will not be at the launch. Either Curt or I will bring them to town.

Yeah Dave i do that too, but the Mobile Hangar Unit No.6 (the same that had the back window blown out) is down for catalytic converters-so no portable bed for me this year. KenRico may roll the RV but the hotel is cheeper than the fuel over the mountains for us.

I gotta say, folks here in Colorado haven't had much of a chance to launch much of anything for months - too dry or too wet or too windy or a combination of all three weather conditions. Really looking forward to getting out of the winter blues on the front range and heading west. We go from 70 degrees one day to four inches of snow the next - I can't take much more of this. And now the forecast for our next possible launch date is showing 15 mph winds for the day, with gusts to 30. Hard to catch a break - VEGAS is calling.

Plastic foot baggies helps keep bodies from growing six inches if the lake be is wet. But that's if you're already out there. If it's wet going out - turn around. BLM isn't happy with mud tracking anywhere.....

Inflatable mud kayaks-if you can put up a pad-I'll get to it!

Is the lakebed dry?
I drove by the lakebed on 2/21/17 and it looked dry and in great condition. When I drove by it on 12/29/16 it looked like an actual lake in the middle. I was viewing it from the 15 fwy both times.

Certainly one advantage to the lake bed is there is very little vegetation around the pad area that could pose a fire danger. Yet another one of NCR's launch dates has been cancelled due to fire risk concerns from the Permit issuer, the USFS. Admittedly, there is some risk, but launching off the concrete pad of a decommissioned Atlas Site should have been sufficient mitigation to the risk, not to mention all of the air pressurized water based fire extinguishers, and fire brooms the club provides. The drought continues in Colorado and our flying sessions are in doubt. Looking forward to flying with friends at Jean.

I love the mutts but I wish they didn't hate rockets. They both turn into a couple of whining pansies and bolt for the car at the sound. I have to give them Benadryl on the 4th of July. Hope you can make the launch!

Again... never been... but thinking of it... I am long time ROC member, so I know the 'Dry Lake Bed' drill. I would be camping.
The big deal is maybe I could fly some DeeRoc29'ers.
OTOH its a haul. 4.5 hours at a good clip.
DeeRoc29 you heading out Friday AM?

And you drown rats in San Diego (the most under reported flooding in the state)? You guys coming/going?

blub, blub, blub! Got part of my roof ripped off and gallons per hour pouring in. Glad I had a pump and containers big enuff to collect this liquid sunshine. Fixed the roof now maybe we wait for 8 more months for it to rain and see if I did any good! Love to meet you there, Jeff!
