Saw the booster come back down and it was falling so fast I didn't think it could slow down enough to land but it did a great job then herd the boom. History for the cape for sure.

Nerd Win!!!! Awesome, just freakin' AWESOME!!!!!

Watched it with the kids, they were enthralled from liftoff to last satellite deploy. Even my wife cheered when they landed the booster.

I thought they were going to splatter that thing, but it's pretty light at that point and capable of ALOT of thrust.

Watched the feed with the kids as well. Just an awesome accomplishment.

Win.

We couldn't see anything because of the clouds, but we heard a very distinct boom here in east Orlando.

Watching the video on YouTube right now ... that ... was ... cool!

I know right! Just like all the folks that got your 54/1706 deal before I saw it ;) :p

I'll be streaming this one tonight!!

Hey Marcus. Yeah, there are a bunch of rocketeers that have some 1706 motors and reloads sitting under the Christmas tree :). Who know's if it will come back.....how about a complete 98-10240 with M1939W reload for $225 ?

My two year old daughter was cheering them on after liftoff! She's a techy for sure!

My thoughts exactly. Thought we would see a splat, and then they just stuck the landing! Way to go SpaceX!!!!!

Just wow and awesome. These guys need to engineer the next moon or mars mission.

Thunderbirds are GO!

Historic moment indeed. Reusable space vehicles for everything

More pics. First one most likely shot by a multicopter. And likely a screen grab from a video we'll hopefully see soon. [edit - YEP!]

Any ideas as to the cause of the interesting soot pattern? the landing legs only deploy last minute so that explains why underneath them is still clean white, but why is the section in the middle clean, with two clear lines above and below where the black stops and starts? Was there some kind of faring there covering the spot up?

Here's the video where that first shot comes from. Right on the X....

Maybe that area had ice on it from the tanks, and the ice got covered in soot and then melted off?
