From Country Life on FB:
"My wife took up gardening... I wonder what she's going to plant."

A blonde teenager, wanting to earn some extra money for the summer, decided to hire herself out as a "handy-woman"
She started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house, and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.
"Well, I guess I could use somebody to paint my porch," he said, "How much will you charge me?"
Delighted, the girl quickly responded, "How about $50?"
The man agreed and told her that the paint brushes and everything she would need was in the garage.
The man's wife, hearing the conversation said to her husband, "Does she realize that our porch goes ALL the way around the house?"
He responded, "That's a bit cynical, isn't it?"
The wife replied, "You're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those dumb blonde jokes we've been getting by email lately."
Later that day, the blonde teenager came to the door to collect her money.
"You're finished already?" the startled husband asked.
"Yes, she replied, and I even had paint left over, so I gave it two coats."
Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50.00 and handed it to her along with a $10.00 tip.
“And, by the way," the teenager added, "it's not a Porch, it's a Lexus."

As for anesthesia. I have a bad habit of waking up. I warn all the anesthetist's that I wake up. When I told the anesthetist who was going to put me under for the colonoscopy that, he said he would take that as a challenge. I have woken up during a Bronchoscopy, Cataract surgery, with an endoscope down my throat, a back procedure and twice during the same cardiac ablation. Waking up during that was cool. I woke up and looked at the giant TV next to me and could see the wires inside of me. I said wow and was out again. The second time a nurse was holding my head and she said we are going to burn and I said burn it and was out again. Waking up during the cataract surgery was the worst.

I guess it's down to what you consider generational wealth. I know a number of people who were able to buy a house because of a [relatively modest] inheritance. Of course, a 30-year fixed rate mortgage is rent control in the sense that you aren't nearly as subject to increases in housing costs (yes, taxes and insurance do go up, but they're a modest share of the total).

And it's getting harder with the way interest rates and student debt are now. Even without student debt, my kids talk about being unlikely to be able to buy a house without an inheritance. My daughter might be able to do it, but that's because she's in a smaller town and would likely buy land and build a house with her partner.

Off the soapbox now, nobody's laughing.
I do hope they aren't making plans to expedite the inheritance
