Wave said knife and say "Each eat your fair share or I'll gut you!" Then the task is accomplished with zero strokes.
If one stroke is actually needed, the other should comply after the seeing that you weren't kidding and yelling "So how do you like THEM apples!" to the first would cement that point to #2.
...or just line up the apples and with one stroke take a bit less than 1/3 off the sides (accounting for the core which no one wants).
