How to determine the no. of gores required for a parachute?

Are there specific formula to determine this?
Is it determined by obtaining the inflation shock value?

I want to design an elliptical parachute with diameter=30''.. The material chosen is appox. 1.4 oz ripstop nylon

NOTE: My question is not to design a gore pattern but to obtain the number of gores required for a parachute

As the parachute size increases, the number of gores increase. This is to keep the load on each shroud line constant. I haven't seen an equation to calculate this, but you might be able to come up with an estimate from the information on the Fruity Chutes website.
