From Dave's posting in the [email protected] list comes:

Today we are pleased to announce our new book, 2033 The Nuclear Mission to Mars. In 14 chapters with 694 pages we explore the topic of achieving a manned mission to Mars with an advanced NERVA class propulsion system. The book takes into account the topics of crew factors, radiation exposure and the issue of gravitation. The goal is to land a healthy productive crew on Mars and returning them back to Earth. The mission model is presented for launch, interplanetary flight and surface operations to determine first hand the history of Mars.

Unlike nearly all other books on Mars available we provide a flight simulator and mission sequence for the reader to explore. Thus this is a reference for students and Engineers alike.

The text is based on the NASA and DOE nuclear propulsion program of the 1960’s with advances in fuel element design impressive performance capability and that is within our technical grasp today. Applying Reactor Kinetics we outline the engine design and operational factors.

There are some 51 resources to provide the technical basis and many of these are included in the Reference section. Thus giving you in-depth details not found in other textbooks. All at an affordable price. This book is Kindle and Nook friendly so readers can take this entire work with them anytime or place.

Following the tradition found in The N3ext Shuttle and Rocket Science this book with its simulator is an experience worthy of your interest.

On the topic of nuclear cores and deep space radiation control the author applies some 30 years of operational knowledge from military and commercial nuclear power. As a reactor physics instructor from the Rickover program we know what works when spending months under the sea. History demonstrates with 200 submarines the effective operational achievements of safe effect reactor safety that in 54 years has a flawless record thanks to the intensive training program.
