I am 40+ year old dude, and I always loved space and rockets. I worked at a university, doing simulations. Now I am a software developer.

When I was kid I launched tiny self made rockets including water rockets. Now I do no launches, mostly just read stuff.

Find a Tripoli or NAR section near you! You don't even have to bring anything except maybe hat, chair, water to your first launch.
