I recently "inherited" an old model rocket, an Estes AIM-45a Sentinel Missile, which fisrt appeared in the Estes catalog in 1987, but was discontinuted in ???? -- other than it being an 18mm motor'ed rocket, I've got zero information on this guy. I will probably have to replace the elastic shock cord before flying this again, who knows how old that is. Seems like it's decent shape but could use a cleaning.

Was this based on a real missile of any type, or was this somehing Estes came up with on their own, like the Red Nova, and just pretend it's a missile?

It's just like the red nova, a made-up missile. It's a pretty cool rocket though!
