Can a23 batteries be used for launching e motors? If so, what configuration should be used?

The A23 is 12v but very low capacity (~60mAh) so the voltage is correct but there just isn't the capacity to use in a controller.

+1.
You’d probably get a couple of launches from a single A23 before having to bin it, unless it’s a rechargeable one. You could use a few in parallel to improve the current capacity, but why bother!
You would be better off with a small 3S LiPo if you’re after something that will give you close to 12V, but even a 2S or 1S LiPo has significantly more current capacity than an A23.

I used to like the A23 batteries. Largely surpassed, for many reasons, by the various LiPos that are available.

Not sure if the A23 would reliably light a motor igniter. Probably too much internal resistance. You could experiment.

The A23 batteries were used in many Adept altimeters but had a big capacitor to help it out because of its very high internal resistance. Even though the altimeters were intended for use with low current things like ematches or flash bulbs.

The size of the motor is irrelevant, its the ignitor used. A23 doesn.t have the balls needed.
