Hey All,
Just saying Hi to all from Belleville Ontario. Just bought my first starter kit for my son and I. Something to bond doing and get outside (Tired of video games :)). I tried to search the forum as to where I can purcase materials online in Canada. I'm a single dad on a tight budget. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi new guy. I'm not in Canada either, but there is a Canadian sub-forum here somewhere - that might be a good place to look for leads.

*Edit* I now see you've found it...

Welcome! +1 on Sunward. I'm in the States, but I've ordered from them several times. Great company to do business with.

Model rockets can also be made from very inexpensive materials. My current build is 2l pop bottles and centring rings made from the wood panels off an old television cabinet.

Welcome, cormad. You'll get all kinds of support here so don't be afraid to search the forum and ask questions. Finding a local club is always a good bet.

Threemore, sounds like you're using a plan out of the Red Green Book of Rocketry; if it includes duct tape, I'd know for sure.

We have one CMASS member in particular who uses lots of plastic bottles in his original designs. He gets some really good flights most of the time. At least, they are always crowd pleasers. His daughter had her own multi-bottle design at a recent launch that featured lots of screw-off caps adorning the fins. It gave a low, draggy flight and many of the caps popped off and sprung up upon landing. A visual treat all the way up and down.

Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.

Welcome to the hobby! I have had great success with All Rocket Engines, Sunward, Great Hobbies, Hobby Wholesale, and Sigma. Sigma now has laser cutting and 3D printing capability, and have made custom rings and fins for non standard tubes. Each of these companies have great products and service. If you graduate into High Power rocketry another company to look at would be Coast Rocketry in Langley B.C.

I second the suggestion of https://www.allrocketengines.ca/. Tons of interesting starting (and more advanced) kits, very good prices, lightning fast delivery (I live in Quebec City) and it is in Ontario.

Happy flying!

Thanks for that info on Sigma's new capabilities, Garth! That's handy stuff these days :)

Greg & Sue at Coast are great to deal with. Ditto Angelo at Sunward. Don't know if Taras is still involved with Sigma, but they too were always good to deal with.

Welcome Jeff,

Belleville is not too far from Ottawa so you should consider coming down for one of our launches sometime. See rockets of all shapes and sizes and lot of rocketry talk in between. We fly year-round on Sundays every 2 weeks (more or less, see the Calendar) dependent on the weather of course. Just had a nice launch day yesterday.

Get all the info here: https://ottawa-rocketry.org/

Join our Yahoo mailing list for local rocket discussions and the all important "GO for launch" email on launch days.

PS: It was only yesterday that I learned that the ORG once used a launch site close to Belleville!

Thanks ALL!

Dario,
I am definitely going to come up to one of your launches. I have a tent trailer and we love to camp, we will make a long weekend out of it. I believe there are two sites they have used; 1) Mountainview airport (military) and the old Picton airfield. I am very familiar with both locations.

Morlock,
I just got back from Holidays and was in Valcartier and old Quebec city over the weekend. Love it there!

Glad you liked Quebec city. I haven't been in Valcartier since my infantry reserve training 13 years ago. Got some nice memories of boot camp though :)
