. Just the currency requirement changes in order to prevent bankruptcy so when the economy goes back to normal, the industries are still there for it to runrun, and then currency resumes as normal.

if everythings free and it works good then why go back to having currency?
think on this thought you have for a while-think it through from start to finish. think about being a business owner and this happening. think how much violence would occur. think about the military being in every city.

I'm in full agreement here. There's actually no such thing as Price Gouging. Free Enterprise should be left alone and if it were then the following would have happened:

I can do a similar break down with anything else where "price gouging" is prevented. Hurricanes hit an area and power is out for a month - gas generators will go way up in price and more will be brought in to sell at these higher prices. Eventually price comes back down and anyone that wants one has some available. However, if prices are artificially kept low the generators will sell out quickly and no more will be available at the regular price or any price. Potential customers sit at home in the dark, happy that they weren't "gouged".

Hmm . . . OK "break this down".

Scenario :

You have been bitten by the world's deadliest snake, in a remote area of the world, and you will die shortly, unless you receive antivenin quickly, in sufficient quantity . . .
Fortunately, for you, there is a nearby doctor with exactly what you need and there is no other source close enough to save your life.

There is a "catch", however. The doctor has used "free enterpise" to determine how much hew will charge you. He knows that he is the only source and that you will die without the antivenin.

So, what is his "price" ?

He demands that you :

( 1 ) Sell him your House & Car, for $1 each.
( 2 ) Transfer the balance of all of your bank accounts to him, electronically.
( 3 ) Give him your 16-year-old daughter, for his pleasure, whom he will "re-sell" later.

Will you "pay the price" ?

After all, according to you, there is "no such thing as Price Gouging", right ?

"Currency" is one of the last vestiges of anonymity and privacy . . . No "paper trail" and no "electronic fingerprints" on transactions.

Before you ask, "What do you have to hide ?", let me ask you. "Why do you need to know ?"

So my choices are to 1) die, or 2) allow my daughter to be passed into slavery and rape???? I choose number 1.

No, I decide that the price is too high to pay, I pass on the purchase and now there is still antivenin available for the next person to decide if they're willing to pay whatever price they're offered.

Still not gouging.

Maybe the seller realizes that the price is too high after a few people pass and he decides to remove the slavery/rape portion and someone finally decides to pay the high price? Hard to say.

Do you have any crack for sale? :)

That's why cash is also tracked by serial numbers.
I work on banking equipment, they store serial numbers of your withdraws and deposits.

Initial "snap choice" decision . . . Reanalyze this situation.

If you are there and only have a short time to live, it stands to reason that your daughter is already there with you, since she was included by the doctor . . . After you die, she would have no one to defend her or try to get her back. By saving yourself, you could, at least, have a "fighting chance" to get her back.

On the bright side, your wife, if you are married, gets to keep the house, car, and bank accounts, if you die . . . However, your daughter loses, either way. It is all a matter of perspective.

Remember to consider ALL angles, because NOTHING is ever as simple as it seems, at "face value" . . . Ever !

You didn't include any information in your original question, so I call BS.

Either way, this has little or nothing to do with why it's a GREAT idea to allow grocery stores to raise the prices on things that are selling out quickly. It's proven that being allowed to do so would result in more product being available for everybody, and decisions to artificially force prices to stay the same (based on emotions) allow fewer people access to the product. That's the angle I'm considering.

In a "well functioning economy" (Adam Smith's words) allowing the prices to go up and down quickly due to supply and demand is necessary. Otherwise the producers cannot correctly respond, which ends up causing harm due to shortages and surpluses. That's the basis of a free market but it also requires that the market be able to respond quickly.
Unfortunately, we don't have a well functioning economy right now and the market is unable to respond quickly enough. We have selfish (possibly immoral) people hoarding necessary supplies. Sometimes it's necessary for the government (of the people) to step in and put a thumb on the scales for compassionate reasons.

Well said, sir . . . Well said !

There are times of crisis when you suspend the rules. Those should be rare and always with intent to get back to normal, at least with republic form of government.

Not necessary if the stores were allowed to raise their prices according to their sales. As people begin to "hoard" for immoral reasons and others begin to "stock up" for completely moral reasons (trying to go to the store less often) the prices in the stores go up, hoarders can buy fewer items, and because store prices go back down as demand dwindles the hoarders are left with a lot of product they can't use and lose money.

This will keep "hoarders" who would otherwise try to resell what they bought and make money from doing this to begin with. Price gouging laws make this black market kind of thing possible.

It's a lovely theory.

It's also completely absurd. Those without the means to pay the high prices are still left with nothing while they wait for people with means to stop buying them up. A dose of sanity and humanity in the form of limiting purchase quantities resolves the problem without eliminating access to those capable of paying only the reasonable prices.

I think limit numbers helps spread the wealth and prevent price gouging on eBay.

People just make multiple trips ( same day or every day ), bring extra people with them each time, and / or go from store to store ( like "bar-hopping" ) . . . No "Rocket Science" to their strategy !

"Hoarders", who are looking to re-sell their items at inflated "Black Market" prices on the street, should be arrested, convicted and given stiff sentences . . .

Make "examples" out of a few of them and the problem will be "self-correcting", especially after "word gets around " that this dude is why your Momma or Gramma couldn't get any toilet paper, hand sanitizer, food, medicine, etc, etc, etc . . .

The other prisoners will "remind them of the error of their ways", every day, maybe several times a day !

Adam Smith also said in "Wealth of Nations" that one third of corporate profits should be returned to the workers for a healthy economy.
He also stated that some regulations are needed or you will end up with monopolies.

They have shuttered entire sections of the economy...

So free or not, many things are NOT moving...

Do you really want to have to prove your needs...

In order to go about your daily life...

Many say you don't need a 15 round magazine...

Think real hard about what you are asking...

I prefer 25 round.

There's an amazing similarity between what's going on with PPE and ticket sales (for example, to a rock concert). How do you keep a handfull of people from buying up all the tickets and scalping them for many times the face value? How do you keep corporate middlemen (Ticketmaster) frm making outrageous profits from the same, but sanctioned, methods?

BOYCOTT Ticketmaster, until they either remedy the situation or go out of business . . . The power of the boycott is vastly underestimated !

Same thing for the "Scalpers" . . . After they buy up all the tickets and no one goes to the show, they'll get the message.

Another option is for the venue, if they are advised of large "blocks" of tickets being sold or large numbers of ticket being sold to the same people, would be to make it "Reserve Seats, in advance, but PAY AT THE DOOR". The venue and the performers would get their money and the "scalpers" would be SCREWED !

I personally compare public concerts to playing Russian roulette. The problem with this game is 50% of the chambers may be filled.

Thats exactly why I said that all business stays privately owned. And everything stays the same except the only difference, and a limited time, is that currency is suspended. Because if the government seized the means of production, or everything is handled my hiking taxes, then it would be communism or socialism. What I'm saying is everything literally runs in the same way. Just the currency requirement changes in order to prevent bankruptcy so when the economy goes back to normal, the industries are still there for it to runrun, and then currency resumes as normal.
How are things of value exchanged?
How are values established?
How are items of value stockpiled and delivered when and where needed?
There’s nothing wrong with currency. Nor does currency cause any problem. it’s what’s needed in order to make trade possible. Without currency, trade is practically confined to a very small local area and nobody has anything that isn’t produced within that area. Here’s a dozen eggs. Can you just carve one pound off that steer you have there? Whaddya mean he’ll die? I have to take the whole steer? How do I store it?

Salesman shows up at a farmer’s door, asked him about the three legged pig.

Farmer begins.

“Oh, he’s amazing.

Out kitchen caught fire one night, pig comes right up to our bedroom window, oinking like crazy, woke us up, probably saved our lives.

Another night a robber tried to sneak in, the pig bit him and chased him off.

Last week a coyote was halfway into the chicken coop when the pig showed up, I never see’d a coyote run off so fast”

Salesman says, “Wow, that is impressive. But how come he only has three legs?”

Farmer answers, “Well shucks, a pig that great you don’t just eat all of him at one time.”

Love that story. Heard it first in one of the Sten books by Cole/Bunch.
