Yeah, I'm in Indiana. Talking to my brother in rural Virginia, seems even more strict there. But he lives in what is fundamentally a retirement area with decent weather year round.

At least I have a few rockets to build :D.

I read somewhere recently (maybe even another thread here) that the toilet paper issue started in Hong Kong. Reports on virus measures and quarantine mentioned citizens running out of Toilet Paper. However, that particular issue for Hong Kong is more likely related to China's supply interference to the area than the actual virus. But the same population that equated novel Coronavirus with Corona beer, may have taken the TP connection and ran with it assuming its a life staple that is now in danger.

As for me, Im two rolls into the 18-pack i bought in January, so I think i'll be fine.

There’s freaking out, which isn’t helpful. And there’s taking prudent steps, which makes sense. I guess different people draw the line at different places.

I did stock up on certain things, including TP, because I think it makes sense to do so. Maybe some might think that’s a sign of panic, but here are my reasons. I don’t intend to go to the store for a couple of weeks to avoid contact with others. If I personally got sick, or my wife got sick, I’d self-quarantine for at least 2 weeks. And from watching the news, other countries have ordered certain regions to lock down, stores and restaurants are ordered shut, and you aren’t supposed to be on the streets — it makes sense to me that could happen here. For those reasons, I have several weeks of food, TP, and panic-soothing booze (which maybe I didn’t get enough of, and I’m kind of starting to panic over).

Does that make sense, or have I given in to media-induced mass hysteria?

It makes sense, certainly not dumb, but with a bit of hysteria and also a bit selfish. One of my sons went shopping yesterday had no problems with getting what he wanted except for TP. He is 43 has 4 children, why should he have to go looking all over or have to go back to the store again to get TP? I'm 65 and if I go shopping and get everything I want except for TP, why should I have to go back to the store again just for TP? This article sums it up pretty good: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/03...ilet-paper-so-why-are-people-trying-hoard-it/

Wow, that is super nice. Don't want to make you though as I am living in a "high rise" in Terre Haute temporarily for another three weeks when I move into a new house in the Attica area. After my doctor gave me the news, about 9pm yesterday, I went to Kroger and Lowes to get a few things. I would say outside of the cashiers, I wasn't 10 feet from another person, and even more, I'd say I saw less than 10 people total in both places.

Take care - Two weeks could a nice break.

I've had 2 flights cancelled and I can't check in early for my international flight because the system says I don't have a reservation. Grrrr.
Oh and I did try the 800 number this morning. You can imagine how that went.

Having said all that... I don't blame the airline personnel that are having to deal with a million people panicking. They should all be commended for doing the best they can. But this was my originally scheduled flight and the first leg got cancelled 48 hrs before departure.
I'm hoping if I get to Frankfurt on my own they'll let me go home.

I am going to warn folks one more time - avoid politics. Off handed and divisive comments will not be tolerated. It is time for the world and our country to come together and defeat this virus.

Offensive and blatantly political comments will be deleted and posters will be immediately banned from the threads.

Good luck to you. I look forward to hearing you made it home.

I wish the CDC would keep its confirmed case count updated over the weekend. They update at noon every day Monday to Friday. So the last update was Friday at noon, and confirmed cases were 1,629. I’m seeing numbers closer to 2,900 for confirmed cases reported in the news today (Sunday). The next CDC update will be Monday, three days after their last one, and I’m not sure it’s good for peoples’ nerves to have a long gap with no change and then see numbers double or triple in the next update.

This is a staffing issue. The staff needs time off. If they are like our lab, they do not run the tests on weekends. There are reasons for this, but notably, the test does not determine treatments and if they run them on weekends, they have to stop something. Our lab only runs life-saving tests on weekends. This is not one of them.

If I were to suspect a positive case over the weekend, the test will have resulted in 24-48 hours. We quote 72 so the weekends do not give an expectation that will get the results on Sunday.

Why is it the statistics are always in a negative light? I would also like to see the number of recovered cases. Another number, while negative, which may be pertinent is how many relapses?

Madrid airport is sparse. The streets are dead. But I did see a burger king delivery to the hotel.
People are being nice to each other when they have to queue up for the plane.
No a$$h*Les in sight. We chat.. from 1 meter away.
Occasionally a taxi will pull up to the hotel.
And now the most wonderful lightening and thunder storm raining on the city.
And at least the hotel bar is open now.
Uno cervesa, por favor.

went to the store at 5AM for some milk and there was a line at the door of about 70-80 people waiting for the doors to open. I just kept on driving, went back at 7PM, still plenty of milk, was 4th in line at checkout. It's crazy. I didn't check to see if they had TP, but the eggs were sold out. Anyone with a dog has no real need for TP.

I needed some fresh fruit so I took a trip to Kroger. Fresh stuff was packed. Meat and deli counters were normal. Not a drop of milk or water, no bread, no canned anything, no pasta, no TP, no frozen meat and limited cheese (I guess no one likes cheddar) we have 15 confirmed cases in the state. Saw 2 people wearing masks, one an elderly man probably in his 70s and a woman in her 30s. Can't fault the man.

Total 99 cases with 1 death

It is slowly spreading east from Atlanta.

It's finally hit home. Sad to say it's disrupting my ability to get cheap crap that I probably didn't need in the first place fast...

I'm also Indy area. Carmel specifically. Thanks for the report. Haven't been to grocery store since 2 pm Friday. First thing I will run out of is milk. I plan a Tuesday morning milk run. Stores should be restocked by then. Other than that I'm good through the week though I would like some veggies midweek.
