The Upstate Research Rocketry Group would first like to say thank you to all of our members and volunteers for supporting us this past season. It was a terrific season and we truly appreciate all of your hard work. We have had many new members sign up this past season, and all were impressed with our club and how helpful our members are. Someone is always willing to extend a helping hand, which is commonplace throughout our hobby and community.

In celebration of all this, and as we do every year, we are proud to announce URRF 7 is now open for registration https://urrf.us/registration/

So what is URRF 7?? URRF stands for Upstate Research Rocketry Festival, and a festival it will be. This will be our 7th year holding this large event with many improvements and new additions. This year we are adding a few non-rocketry related vendors, and some non-rocketry related raffle prizes. We think you will be impressed, so be sure to check back as we update our vendor and raffle prize list.

Lastly we are working on special URRF 7 Rocketry contest in conjunction with WildmanRocketry. Details to soon follow. For now, let’s just say it will be the year of the Goblin
1f60a

Looking forward to seeing you all at URRF 7!!

Very best,

The Upstate Research Rocketry Group

URRF 7. I am really looking forward to it. Jerry did a great job rounding up the really nice raffle prizes. Here we go again the camping at country charm friends and rockets. Having a seasonal camper and site there makes it easy.

We have a bunch of different raffle prizes this year, not all rocketry related. As an example In a few days we will be adding a gift basket from Finger Lakes Premier Properties rental. https://www.fingerlakespremierproperties.com/ This basket will include some goodies and a $400.00 gift certificate to anyone of their property rentals. There are already some fantastic prizes posted, and will continue to update the list as we get closer to the event. Be sure to scroll down to see the entire list: https://urrf.us/product/20-raffle-tickets/

Looking forward to the launch and festivities. May I suggest adding a list of registered flyers to the web site?

Hi Joe, our site is not set up for it at the moment and URRF 7 has been launched. However we have added it to the discussion list for next year.

How many URRF's have you attended and what are you planning on flying this year?

-Jerry

This will be my fourth URRF, Jerry. I plan to bring a 4 inch custom Villain, 54mm custom Villain (in construction), Ethos 2.0, Darkstar, Darkstar Jr, 54mm Zodiac, Custom Punisher 2.6... and a couple of mid power rockets. Wouldn't miss it!

Looking forward to being there and helping as much as I can with the BFR's. I may still be hobbling around with a cast on my leg, or not, we'll see.

Seems like everyone is excited about URRF. I'm planning a couple of lighted rockets in case the rumors of a night launch turn out to be true...

April 23, 2020

URRG Members,

There is no soft way to put this, so we’ll be direct: we feel that there is no responsible way to host URRF-7 this June. Even as downstate NY begins to see light at the end of the tunnel, communities in the upstate region are still at risk of infection. As such, encouraging large numbers of visitors from out of the area - or indeed, out of state - is not a wise thing to do.

With the Coronavirus continuing to spread and has impacted larger sections of the country, the URRG Board of Directors has had to continuously reevaluate upcoming events. As previously noted, the launches for both April and May are already scrubbed.

We did investigate the possibility of rescheduling the event. However, the conditions that allow URRF to take place in June are unique - there’s a narrow window between the start of summer and the growth of the nearby crops. We are, afterall, operating on an active farm. By the time the crops are harvested and the rear field is accessible again, we are out into the cooler and wetter months. So, with that in mind, URRF-7 is canceled outright for 2020. We expect, though, for URRF to come with a roar in June of 2021.

The Torrey Farm, which hosts our events, is running with reduced staff and has had to plant crops differently than we’re used to. Our favorite campground, Country Charm, is uncertain to be able to accomodate us. And on top of that, the financial burden that this pandemic has placed the majority of people in means that turn out would be low even if we did fly. In short as much as it pains us to admit, putting on a large regional launch this summer is just not practical.

Even though URRF is scrubbed, we would like to thank our members and our guests for their support and regret the inconvenience. Anyone that has already registered for the event, or purchased tee shirts and raffle tickets, can expect a refund by PayPal. We would also like to thank the vendors that were lined up to attend the event as well; we would’ve seen a larger turn out than in the past and many of these vendors had already donated prizes for the raffles.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for updates. At the time of this writing, we anticipate our season opening with the July launch, on the weekend of the 18th of that month. Also, we are pleased to announce that in lieu of having spring meetings and launches, URRG will host a general membership meeting by Zoom on the evening of May 6 that 6:30PM. This will at least give us the chance to chat, pass on the news, and have some show-and-tell. So check back soon for more information.

Stay healthy and stay safe!

Sincerely,

The URRG BOD

This is such a shame..
But I understand it must be..
What a fantastic time this launch is for everybody..
Time will go by quickly, it always does.
And we'll all be back together again laughing and launching..

Teddy

Teddy, we'll just have to wait till another time to debate who has better hot dogs. Zweigle's are hard to beat...

Total bummer, but not unexpected. May I suggest the title of the thread note "cancelled". Will miss all of you😭

Let's all raise a glass,, ( coffee right now )
we'll be back together again hanging out at the field or around a nice fire really soon..

I was expecting this in March, so no surprise. My company has been hit hard, so 2020 and likely well into 2121, has to be a hard focus on rebuilding the company. I may not see any of you for a couple of years.

We are trying to get that to happen Joe, but it seems that no one in our group knows how to do that. Maybe a moderator can help us with that.
