Am looking to scratch build the X-15, but it would help to have a model that already exists to work from. The biggest and most detailed model I've seen is from Performance Hobbies, but another would be good.

The form and dimensions of the canopy and fairings are going to be a challenge to get right.

Hoping someone has built and simmed their X-15, and is willing to share their Rocksim or OpenRocket file. It would be a welcome starting point for me.

Was wondering the same. Looking for a CAD file for the nose cone and fairings that could be scaled. The rest is gravy...

The X-15 sim is not exact but it sims very close to what my altimeter said. TRF does not allow CAD files, the PDF is actually a dwg, just change .pdf to .dwg and you should be good.

I realize this is a pretty old thread, but I'm actually looking to do similar. @ghostfather , did you ever end up getting a sim put together you'd be willing to share, or find a sim for the performance hobbies kit? I'm looking to make one the same scale as the performance hobbies kit.

If you haven't, for what it's worth the Apogee file below for Rocksim is the best I've found, but it's a little smaller, and I've mainly used OpenRocket, which doesn't support the pods.

Gary, thanks. I've added this file to my X-15 collection of Rocksim files.
The SmokinRockets file above was more in line with what I was looking for as far as scale, with a 54mm motor mount, flying J, K or L motors.
I may be able to get a good rocksim file from someone who built the older Performance Hobbies kit, but haven't been able to visit him recently because of Covid restrictions.
The X-15 is on my list of rockets to build someday, have plenty of unfinished projects in the mean time.

Oh look!
Extra 6" X-15 parts.
And know of more stash.20210403_180233.jpg20210403_180419.jpg
