I've yet to use Stickershock. I just gave their site a quick look and I didn't see any indication of the prices for custom printed and/or cut items. Obviously it depends on the size. What else does it depend on? What are the price ranges for a few sizes and types?

It's mostly based on his time to get the decals right, not necessarily how much material he uses. Sometimes a small decal could cost more than a big one, because it takes him longer to weed the vinyl out. Just send him what you need and he'll give you a quote. I just emailed him about a relatively straightforward custom decal, but it's still going to take him some time to work it up and will cost more than his standard sets that are ready to go.

Mark does charge an hourly design rate for custom work, however his prices are still more reasonable than most sign shops to do the same thing, as he is a rocketeer as well he knows the intricacies of rocket decal requirements. Can't say enough good stuff about Mark's work his work has flown on two of my projects and I have seen lots of his stuff on Flyfalcons rockets and Burkefj's Dynasoar rocketry gliders.

He charges by the square foot, and he does have a minimum price I believe but not positive. It may have gone up since I used him last. So the price depends on the size. He includes 30 minutes (?) design time with each print. That is enough time for him to adjust the decal, figure out fin locations and mark the lines to be cut, etc. If you know exactly what you want and have the design(s) and all you need if for him to print and cut it, the price will be reasonable. But if you want him to do all the design and artwork for you he will charge by the hour and maybe even get a deposit now.

His rates and what not are here but you probably already saw the page:

I got him to do a wrap for my 4" Tembo some time back...March of last year I think. The wrap itself was $25.00 plus a UV laminate that was another $9.00. So 34 bucks for the wrap. Then another 8 or so for shipping. No painting, no sanding, no polishing was worth it. And I incorporated contact info into the design. And since I bought a minimum of 2' of vinyl but only used some of it for the wrap, I got him to fill in the blank spots with vinyl name tags to put on my other rockets. I did paint and sand the fins and nose cone though. Mark is probably the most patient man I have never met but dealt with. He responded to all my emails and gave me guidance/opinions on my artwork and decals before I placed the order.

I think I had one time figured up the price for my Mega Magg to be between 70 and 90 dollars. Don't know why I am thinking that...

He does great work at a great price. I got a custom decal from him for my mailbox, was actually cheaper than getting crappy looking letters from the local box store.

If you can draw your decal in paint or some other app and send it ready to print. it will save him time and you moola!
He will just size it to your airframe diameter.
You can find tons of artwork by googling "clip art" and downloading the file. Anything that gets your idea on paper will save time and money.

Full-color printed vinyl can be pricey, multiple 10s of dollars depending on rocket size. Cut vinyl can be quite a bit cheaper. Ultimately, it depends on so many factors that you really need to get in touch with Mark to get an idea for your particular rocket.

What size rocket are we talking about here? Cut vinyl or printed? Full wraps or just accent pieces?

I have nothing specific in mind. I've done water slide decals and masking with tape, and am thinking ahead to branching out. Just wanted to know if that would mean - let's say I buy a BT80 or 3 inch rocket about 10 to 15 calibers tall - the rough ballpark of the same price as a kit, or as parts to upgrade the motor mount, or should I start saving my money for six months. Maybe different answers for a full wrap vs. a decal set.

It seems that even this rough there isn't a simple answer.

Lettering is super easy. Pick a color, pick a size, enter your text, enter the font you want, price is provided automatically. (bigger is better, small vinyl lettering is more difficult)

Custom printed stuff (or custom cut vinyl designs) is where you get his custom fee, but the result is quality. As above, give him as close to final artwork as you can manage, and the diameter of your tube so the fit is good.

Looking at his website: for existing designs, printed vinyl decal sets for 3" rockets runs *about* $20-$60, depending on how much decalwork there is. That is generally not for full wraps.

Custom designs will cost more, but as Nytrunner says if you can provide him with virtually print-ready artwork, you can save. Also, I believe he uses (roughly) 48" stock for printing, so a 30-40" rocket will comfortably print on one piece.

Ultimately, you're asking a question that Mark could answer easily: price for a custom printed full wrap for a 3" x 40" rocket, if you provide the artwork.

Mark recommends providing the circumference of the tube as measured by a tape or piece of paper or whatever, not just using math to figure it out. Same as span between fins and their thickness so, if you go with a wrap, he can lay out the cuts for you and fill in areas with sacrificial color to be trimmed or covered.
Lettering and simple cuts are relatively inexpensive. You can even provide the font and picture for him to cut.

Hey Guys I do lurk about here from time to time.. I just don't post that often..

I LOVE doing custom work.. but setting a "ONLINE PRICE" pretty impossible.

Heres a quick break down..

simple one color CUT VINYL.. basically by the square foot OR by the inch... things like lettering about $1.00 an inch depending on height.. or about $10.00 -$12.00 a square foot.

additional colors layered or combined add about 50% for each color...

Full color printed decals.

Minimum setup and print starts at $25.00 (I may waive that if you order other items etc) my minimum includes about 2 square feet of full color printed decal.. REmember my printer is 62" wide.. I print typically on 54" material and theres a good 6" of lead before and after a print.. so even to print a 8x 10 I waste 54" x 12" of vinyl .. thats why the minimum setup..

I have SEVERAL options for printed decals from "low budget" simple white vinyl to FULL on automotive wrap Ij180 Cast ... each vinyl is good for differnt things.

Simple printed on white vinyl cut to shape starts at around $10.00 a square foot.. again depending on how much waste I have to make..

Full color top of the line CAST Wraps start at $15.00 a square foot plus $3.50 a square foot for cast lamination. this is PERFECT for LARGE rocket wraps. Especially if you are doing a nose cone or a complex curve..

Once you contact me and sstart designing a decal I will work with you to come up with whats the best for what you are doing and best for the easiest application and final result for you!

I do adjust my price considering how difficult things are for me to Design.. and to make.. some items very easy little tiny things with lots of detail and colors can be quite difficult.

I NEVER have a problem designing something up for a customer and working a price AFTER I design.. if you walk away from it no problem BUT if you do it over and over and waste my time.. then I WILL NOT do it fre.. I will say this in 14 years of doing this ive only "blacklisted" a couple of people for wasting my time.. MOST people are very happy with my pricing and my design work and once we start a custom piece i almost ALWAYS end up doing the job for the customer.

another thing to think about THE MORE INFORMATION YOU HAVE FOR ME.. such as WHat rocket its going on.. things like CIRCUMFERENCE fin drawings (if needed) Fints colors sizes etc the easier it is for me to design and the less time it takes to come up with a completed design..

be ready with What KIND of tubeing your working with... remember not al tubing is alike... 4" tubing runs anywhere from 12.56" circumference to 13.125" deepening on what type of tube it is.. 2" inch is even worse they range for 1.7" to 2.2" diameter with about 9 different choices for STANDARD tube not to mention weird "toilet paper tubing" type choice (yep ill fit it to anything you want) this is why I ask for a circumference.. YOUR NOT GETTING A GENERIC DECAL WHEN I MAKE IT your getting a one of a kind custom fit to your needs hand made decal!

My design time is $45.00 an hour.. i typically include 30 mins with any purchase

lastly I 100% stand behind EVERYTHING I make.. if its not correct then I have not done my job BUT that works both ways when I ask questions please do your best to answer them and that will give us the best fit and the best final result!

DONT be scared to e-mail me.. [email protected]

right now my wife if fighting round 4 of cancer and its not good so it might take me a bit to get back to you or work up a design BUT I will do my best..

when you contact me... tell me things like "I want this" include pictures if you can.. or drawing even a sketch on cocktail napkin will point me in the right direction.. OR if oyu have NO idea.. tell me "I have this rocket kit... I like the name XXXXXX Im thinking these colors" can you come up with something for me?? thats always a good start too! remember the only limit is your and my imagination!

thanks for listening hope I can work with you soon!

Well...

That's pretty much the sort of ballpark I was looking for, provided in more cases than I expected. So I guess post #11 was right, and thanks for taking the time to give this not-so-simple answer. I'll probably be in touch in the not to distant future with an actual project.

Best wishes to you and your wife.

Mark does killer work. I asked (knowing better because a lot of us would be asking for LDRS projects) for some items with a short window for delivery. Mark went above and beyond to get the project together, and order going. I can say enough good things about a lot of our vendors, and Stickershock23 is at the top of them all. Marks desire for great products (mostly custom) and quality are second to none.

Be warned, that the window for LDRS projects is behind us. Mark has had a bunch of requests. It seems rocketeers are big procrastinators. Last year at Airfest, I thought "I have a full year for my new builds". Now with 18 days to go, Im scrambling. Sounds like a bunch of us are.

As everyone else has said, Mark is great. I made an order last week. In comments, asked for a few customizations on a stock offering AND politely asked if possible to get it before LDRS. The next afternoon Mark emailed a proof. It shipped that day and arrived as fast as priority mail could get it to me. In my opinion, marks prices are reasonable for what you get..... a custom product made to order.

be extra nice, take an additional 10% of your total cost and make a donation to the cancer society.

Or alternatively given that Mark could use the cash and has a gofundme one can always tack it on as a "tip" or however people want to think of it.
