Northern Colorado Rocketry High Skies in July 2018 has received the green light from the US Forest Service for the coming weekend of July 6th, 7th, and 8th on the Pawnee National Grassland at NCR’s North Site.

Been on my list for a while. I'm planning to make the 1,000+ mile trip from Northern California.

Anyone else going?

It is on my bucket list as well, but it doesn't get much air time on this forum. The threat of cancellation make the NCR events hard to plan around for distance travelers. Nonetheless, it is a great place to be, with or without a launch!

Good luck with this one.

This is just a heads-up from Jon Halverson, the Recreation Special Uses Administrator with the
Forest Service
Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests, Pawnee National Grassland
Canyon Lakes Ranger District-Pawnee NG Zone

Today we implemented fire restrictions on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District so they are now in effect for all units of the Arapaho-Roosevelt NF. They are, however, not in effect on the PNG and I am not aware of any move to put them in effect there but to be on the safe side, I checked with the Pawnee Ranger to see if he is still OK with NCR proceeding as planned next weekend. This was his response.

I was out there yesterday and I am not overly concerned today. We have a small chance for precip and cooler temps in the next few days which will make me feel better. But the west side of the Pawnee is considerably drier than the east side. The west side just had a red flag day and if this cooler wetter weather pattern doesn’t set in and we continue with low RH and higher winds, I will more than likely cancel next week.

Joe Hinton shared today...

The PNG Ranger just informed me that NCR is still GO for launching this weekend. He did say There has been some moisture in the area, though where they launch from in the basin is dryer, the grass there is very short so, as always, you folks will need to exercise caution but you do still have the green light
