I just received an order of Aero-Tech 24mm reloads and to my surprise they didn't come with copper heads but with a two wire igniter that looks a little bit like a twiggy. Anyone else have this experience?

I dont use AT any more.. but i can only say a lack of copperhead is not a bad thing.

Anyone who is sad about this should contact me. I have a few hundred of the crapper heads that I will never even think about trying to use.

I've noticed all of the AT reloads I've purchased lately have been coming with First Fire or FF Jr. ignitors. Actually, I've had good success with Copperheads over the years. But honestly, I don't miss them.

Copperhead 8" 6 for $6
FF Jr. 3 for $9 (or more)

If the FF Jr.'s were 3 for $6 it might be a equal value.

Where did you buy them? I just got F24W reloads from Hobbylink and they came with copperheads. I purchased first fire juniors as I am going to cluster them, but having them included would be a plus.

No actual confirmation from Aerotech. Did anyone bother to call or e-mail them? I did not since I have plenty of igniters and I use whatever the motors come with and they generally work.

If this is just a speculation thread and there is no desire to contact Aerotech for actual facts, then those interested in speculation should post what they bought, when they bought it, the lot code on the motors and what igniters they got with those motors.

:pop:

I have plenty of copper heads. I use them to light EX Motors because then I don't have to worry about altimeters and batteries... i make my own igniters too, but testing the best use I have found for ye olde crapper heads.

I have had good luck with Copperheads. I don't like how they are designed (where you either need the special clip or a piece of tape on each aligator clip) but they work well.

I have fair to good success with copperheads, but will not miss them either.

I've had a total of 1 failure using Copperheads. And that was because my power source in my launch controller was running low.

On the AT Facebook page a few weeks ago they confirmed that copperheads were going away and indicated there was a supplier issue sourcing the copperheads. So while this thread is mostly speculation there is truth to it.

What to do with my yellow copper head clip?

I actually spoke with Gary and Karl at Red Glare. It is true - supplier issues have placed the final nail in the coffin for the Copperhead.

I guess I'll have to retire my little yellow clips, well after I go through my remaining stock anyway, that might take a while.

BTW, how have you been doing Andrew? I haven't launched with you guys in a while, I hope everything is going well.

Thank you for providing that information!

I have left a few of the yellow clips on remote launch pads after a launch. Sometimes they found their way back to the LCO or RSO table, other times they did not.

I will miss the Copperheard igniter. They were a product whose value was decreased when other manufacturers improved their own igniters.

So what excuse are people going to use now when the motor fails to ignite?

In the past it was always convenient to blame it on a Copperhead.

I'd use them. ALMOST lit a J350 with one last Saturday - not a failure, merely a setback.

I understand that you have lots of successful experience with them, but the ringing endorsement is pretty funny. =p

I'll take them (if any remain). Shipping cost?

Mike

PS Your PM box is full. Wonder why.

See, now that they're a collector item everybody wants them! Hey Griff, could you save me some long ones?

OK, I ordered 4 packs of reloads and received them yesterday. Two F39 kits and two E28 kits. All came with these new igniters. I won't miss the copper heads.

Jeff I'm doin' great started a new job in October, and finally got to fly last weekend. Want to come to Beeville in May and fly with ya'll.

Copperheads dropped of the dealer price list back in late February. You can still purchase the Interlock clip, though. :)

That's great Andrew, I hope you enjoy the new job. I'm glad you are launching again too, hope to see you at the STAC launch in May. Keep 'em flying high rocket brother!

Don't want to collect them, I'll fly with them or use them for testing. They will not be around for long!
