Whoa. Havnt sold on ebay for about 4-5 yrs and things sure have changed.
They wont allow checks or MO, you must use their paypal. You must use their shipping rates from either USPS or UPS, whether its correct or not.
My ebay fees were 9% of total sale, 9% of the shipping part of sale.
paypal fees 3% of total.
total fees were 12% of total paid.

Craigslist next time.

Any other auction sites?

Ed,

I am working on a free auction site. There is another. Mine will be 100% free for all and will be at https://rocketryauction.com

I have not set the fees yet or openned it, but you can get the feel of what will be available.

This wasnt a rocketry item, household.
When any co grows large they forget their roots. The door is open for others.
I read that part of craigslist is owned by ebay. true?
Im sure ebay is poise to squash.

I have heard the same. I may add a category to sell non-rocketry items.

Amazon is capturing the market that ebay wants.
If I cant find it on a store website, amazon, craigslist, ebay is my last search.
I use ebay to search items, their pics and market price. Then go to others to buy.
ie.. Searched ebay, amazon for a 4" 20000psi gauge. Bought from surplus site, half the cost.

Ebay is good for worldwide. I sell antiquities books-18th cent. Many yrs ago someone from the Dutch Consulate bought one.
My buddy sells antique bamboo fly fishing rods-Japan biggest buyer.

I like selling on ebay but, you are correct about the fees. They lowered their listing fees and then make up for it and then some on the final value fees. For me the experience is just not as fun as it used to be both, the selling and buying.

ebay owned or still owns a part of craigslist but they are not the same type of operation.

Craigslist is for local pickup. ebay for a wider audience.

I wouldn't use ebay unless the item sells for 50.00 or more. Not worth the trouble on anything less than 20.00 For other local pickup items, you could try kijiji

If you think EBay is steep try selling something at an auction house!

I don't really use eBay anymore. The fees got out of hand and their policies become a royal pain. They would constantly put a hold on funds. Despite me having over 200 100% positive feedback.

The other thing that ran me off was the inability to filter out mass sellers.

I'm not aware of any requirement by Ebay to use their USPS or UPS rates. You can do free shipping or flat rate shipping if you want. They started charging fees on shipping because of all the people selling $25 items for $.99 with $30 shipping to get around the fees.

I'll sell something on Ebay if it isn't a common item I can sell locally on Craigslist. Yes, the fees are high, but I bet I make it up with the national exposure.

I will check Ebay for stuff when buying although often the stuff is priced higher than elsewhere. I did just buy something on Ebay that was freight damaged for 25% of the normal cost.
