I really like southern New Hampshire. I love Portsmouth. If I had millions of bucks and was going to go live anywhere I want, southern New Hampshire would be on my short list to choose from.
As for questions about kits like the Tazz, feel free to post them anywhere, but they would probably get the most relevant attention from either the
Watering Hole section (where anything goes) or the
Low Power Rocketry section.
Correction, the
Rocketry and Space Topics Watering Hole section would be better.
LoL- NH = New Hampshire. Southern is the southern part of the state. Might be a new england thing, but we often identify with regions of the states since a lot changes when you cross a mountain range or a major highway. There are a lot of "cant get there from here"-- although this phrase properly pronounced is hard to type. Note out the local rocket club is central MA, CMASS.
New to this forum format, and trying to figure out the quote mechanisms...forgive me while i stumble my way through this with replies.
Can't get they-ah from he-ah.
As for replying to multiple posts at once, there are two ways. One is to use the multiquote feature. Start with the +Quote button at the bottom of each post you want to quote:
The use the Insert Quotes button in the composition screen:
The Insert Quotes button only appears when you've got at least one +Quote selected. Also, you can deselect them when +Quote has changed to ─Quote.
The other way is to simply have the insertion point set in the composition window, then go up to the post you want to reply to and click Reply.
Which way is easier is a matter of both taste and circumstance.
The kids keep encouraging me to have my own rocket-- mostly they noticed how all the rockets are theirs and they think i deserve to pick one out. I'm in decision paralysis mode. My favorite rockets as a kid were the mean machine
https://estesrockets.com/product/001295-mean-machine/ (which honestly, just isn't that practical for a dad always carrying everything to the launch site lol), the condor
https://www.rocketreviews.com/estes-8784.html-- that one has two rugged gliders that come fly down, and my all time fav was this estes silver comet. The silver comet was big, fat, slow launch and a playful look to it.

IMHO, the kids are absolutely right. And I immediately thought that Daddy should have a Big Daddy. But yes, it is just a 4FNC. (That's "4our Fins and a Nose Cone.) Since you're considering scratch building (which I totally encourage) you could dip a toe into that by adding elements to a Big Daddy, such as winglets, canards, or useless decorative bits stuck here and there (known as greebles). And/or just make the body tube longer by adding a coupler and another piece.
Speaking of scratch building, I highly recommend you get a piece of software called
OpenRocket. It lets you design a rocket and simulate its performance before you go into the workshop or out to the field. And it's free. There's a not free application that does mostly the same things called
RockSim. Each has some detailed features that the other lacks, and "free" is a pretty big feature.
(Oops, seems like
@prfesser beat me to that part.)
Hey all-
I'm struggling a bit to understand the site... maybe some newbie advice?
If i want to post anything on rockets, jigs, experiences...this is is the respective low, mid power forums? For example, i just CNC'd replacement fins for our estes Taz after it got run over by a car...and launched it. Where would this go?
I made a fin jig... where does that go?
I'm working on making a new launch pad and controllers for D-F size rockets. where does that go?
Is there a way to configure the home page? What's the fastest way to find my posts and replies to them?
If i'm trying to join a local club and want to pose that question-- where does that go?
Don't get uptight about posting to exactly the right subforum. Skim the subforum titles and take your best guess, it'll be close enough.
- Replacement fins? Well, you're making them for an LP rocket, so it could be LPR. But then, you're making them from scratch, so it could be Scratch Built.
- Fin jig? I'd probably put that in the Rocket and Space Topic Watering Hole, since it's not a great fit elsewhere. But, are you making it to help with LP builds? It could go in LPR. Personally, I'd like to see a subforum for special tools, aids, and jigs, which would obviously be the perfect place, but we don't have one; Techniques is close enough for that.
- Launch pad and controller for D to F motors? I guess MPR, but could just as well be Ground Support. If you separate the pad and controller into different threads (I'm not saying you should, and I'm not saying you shouldn't) then I'd probably put the controller in Rocketry Electronics and Software, or either of the others.
The bottom line is it's no big deal. Relax, you're among friends; no one's going to bite your head off for posting "there" instead of "here".
For finding a local club, honestly the best places are
nar.org and
tripoli.org. But if you want to try one of the watering holes, that's cool too.
(Oh, I've been beaten to the punch again.)
For the forum mechanics questions, there's your user profile that lets you do some stuff, you can do a search by user and search for yourself, and there's a link near the top left of any page that's good for... I don't remember what. I generally just fumble through that stuff and find what I need eventually.
