What size drill bit for 2-56 tap?

At the very least just thread the outer wall. Leave the inner wall drilled slightly larger so you can just push the broken piece out. Trying to unscrew it can be a bugger.

Great tip, however, IF you want to tap both walls, another tip is to just use much longer shear pins. I just get 1/2" long pins now (or longer when I get up to 6-32 pins). That gives you plenty of shear pin protruding inside the tube to grab and twist out. Longer shear pins don't cost more, so why try to work with a 1/4" pin? Even a 3/8" pin for 2-56 is easier to work with than 1/4".

To unscrew broken threaded shear pins, heat up the end of a small head flat blade screw driver and push it into broken screw. Wait a couple of seconds till it melts a slot and cools. Unscrew.
