I don't have a problem with you doing it, after all it is your forum, but it's only fair that others here know what are and aren't our own words.

Being a trek fan I find that this version of the ncc 1701 is in one that would do gene rodenberry proud...

Agreed, change to much from the original, and you lose your faithful base. The only thing that needed updating were the sets, acting (in many cases) and the scenarios. I really like the look of the Enterprise, and if JJ Abrahms stays true to form, his vision of pre-Star Trek (a.k.a The Star Fleet Academy years) the movie should awesome!

OT Looking forwards to Cloverfield 2...

Well, if I may humbly submit, that's pretty much changing everything.

I'm one of the old time faithful, and I'm beginning to think that I just need to let go and move on.

The new Star Trek movie based on the old Star Trek show with new actors playing the old characters that were played by the old actors when the characters were new.

Bet you can't say that fast three times! LOL:)

When does it open?? (Guess I'm just out of touch) Who stars?? Is this supposed to be between Scott Bakula and Kirk or some new kids playing Kirk et al or what??

It was kinda messing with my mind, watching Enterprise (which I generally really enjoyed, but never watched it first time around, because as "DS9" and "Voyager" got weirder and weirder after "TNG" went off the air I finally got 'Trekked out' for awhile and didn't watch any of the TV shows anymore) The weird thing about Enterprise was the ship design was so much more 'advanced' looking than the NCC-1701 ala 1960's "TOS". Yeah, I know production values have increased SO much, and people are SO more demanding now days that they want to see such a COOL looking ship, but if it's 100 years in the past from Kirk it should have LOOKED more like it, at least taken some of the more simplistic styling cues... white hull, red markings, simple cylinders, bright colors in the interiors, simplistic doors, sorta "retro" look would have worked SO much better (though the engine room was cool in Enterprise).

As for "re-imagining" the series, I hope they do it right. I'm hoping they stuck with the same formula for the new Bond film as they did with the last, as it's 're-imagining' of the series was top-notch and very classy (or classic) in "Casino Royale"... I'm wondering about the new film... And I hope Trek manages to keep the classy in classic and not do some dark, sick, "Elvis on 'ludes" version of Trek like the "Batman" movies.... YUCK! OL JR :)

New trailer

The trailer for the new movie is here, plus it's picked apart frame by frame by someone who is a tad OCD with his Shatner mancrush.

Gotta be honest, after seeing the trailer I'm not looking forward to this as much as I was before...

Oh man, I want this on a t-shirt with a picture of the new (old) enterprise... :D

I watched the trailer three times today. I was discussing it with a friend at work, who's somewhat familiar with TOS, but as he's a younger guy, he's more a TNG type. Anyway, we watched it, and after viewing all the quick-cut action sequences and starships blowing up and stuff, his comment was, "I hope it'll be more than just action." and my comment was, "I fear that's all it will be."

I don't know. I just don't know. It didn't leave me feeling any better about the project.

Being another Trek fan, I'll always have a special place in my heart for NCC-1701, She was a thing of design beauty.

That said; I find no big objections to this version. While the Nacelles look a bit chunky... hey: if they hold up under warp whats the fuss;)

One of the things that (imho) that made the original series different is that the Enterprise NCC-1701 was actually one of the characters of the series. Not so in any of the follow on series...

Good point. She was the love of Scotty's life. :)

Not only was she a character, The Enterprise was the first science fiction ship that did not look like a rocket or a saucer.

One other thing that bothers me is that they are not sticking to a long established time line. I would have thought they would have learned from "Enterprise". That show was good TV, but bad Star Trek. Trek is not like any other TV show, it has over 40 years of real history and thousands of years of fictional history. All of which have been established.

just my opinion

Well, I get that this is a "reboot" - that they're sweeping away all that history in order to start fresh. I think of it as Star Trek 2.0. And given that, I understand that being steeped in Trek lore as long as many of us are, is an obstacle that we bring with us. I can actually get around it.

My concern, to reiterate, is that the story is simply going to be ultimately a shoot-em-up. I seriously believe the first Star Trek movie is one of the best because, despite all its problems, it dared to address big ideas and didn't devolve into car chases. And after the third Trek movie, they are all basically shoot-em-ups in one form or another. (This is the negative effect of the success of Star Wars.)

So, when that's all I see in the trailer, I just don't have a good feeling about it. Even taking away Star Trek, if it's just a shoot-em-up, I just don't care.

I my self have been watching Star Trek since the first episode on TV and I think the new movie looks great, it would have been nice if they had followed the time line a little better but I am just happy Star Trek is back:)

I've liked them all, some a lot more than others. The fifth movie is a low point for me, though it did have its moments. I couldn't really get into DS9 that much, but enjoyed the rest of the series and movies. I would have liked the new USS Enterprise to look more like TOS or the first movie, but I'll watch it on the big screen or on DVD anyway and see how it plays out. Hopefully it will be more than a shoot-em-up or a dazzle-em-with techno-wiz movie.

While the ship looks ok the whole idea of a remake right now repulses me.
I grew up watching the original series and was hooked. I watched all spin offs
since but this movie puts me off entirely and I won't go see it. They can't
come up with original ideas of their own so they just remake what was already
done. Pretty bad in my opinion. Current or future generations may never know
who William Shatner is or the other actors because their Star Trek will be
associated with this new film. Sad times indeed.
