For some reason I'm hearing the start of a joke about it in Johnny Carson's voice. "Did you hear about the F-35 that the Air Force lost? It's true; I pilot ejected over South Carolina, and not they can't find the plane. <Insert punch line here>."

I'm amazed that the 1970 avionics (undoubtedly upgraded some time since 1958) was capable of doing that. Very impressive.
