Whoops! My mistake, I didn't see you had put rail lugs on, I only saw the 1/2 and 1/4 inch ones. Sorry about that.

No Problem!

About the Rail lugs, someone with experience, can they be painted or do they have to be taped over. I'm not digging the tannish/grey color they come in.
Thanks for all your support!

BTW here is my proposed paint scheme. What do you think? Not getting decals until after a few flights.

I guess they could be painted over but would chip and look even worse after being put and taken off of the rail. Most people just tape the over and deal with the color. Someone out there should make som rail buttons with many different colors. That would be cool.

^^ +1 :)

That's good to know I'm going to pick up some green ones for my DX3 build.

Well since I don't have my motor to find stability I did my best. I know that my rocksim file has the right CP so what I did was find my empty CG and change the OR file accordingly. As I thought earlier, my weight was going to be .5 lb nose weight to make it a 1.68 Cal Stability. What i did was using the hole I used for shock cord attachment, I filled the tip of the NC with 8 oz of BB's. Then I poured Gorilla Glue on top of that. When that is completely dried, I will use some expanding foam for a little extra security.

Next time try mixing the bbs in the epoxy and then pouring in the mixture it will make for a better bond and if that one layer of epoxy that poured over comes loose then there will be a bunch of bbs rolling around freely in the nose cone.

Will Do next time. actually it's not epoxy it's Gorilla glue which is supposed to stick better than epoxy but either way if that comes loose you are right. Thanks!

As I re-read your post for what you plan on doing you will be fine for this build because if you foam the nose one that will keep everything in place.

I know I will probably hear a lecture but today I foamed the NC. I didn't have the two part foam so I just used the spray in foam. I wouldn't use that if it was all I was usig but the goal is just to be a precaution from a 1/2 lb GG and BB block sliding back. It actually settled and cured really well and should provide me protection.

I am loving the versatility with the different rail/rod options. Never no what launch pads will be available. Have you had any drag issues with such a setup? I might have to steal this idea from you.

Honestly, I have never flown anything with a setup like this. I haven't even flown mid-powers yet. :y: But I don't see much of an issue. Not looking for altitude here. After adding weight and calculating stability, it looks like I will be at right around 1650 ft. + or -. Before I launch this though I have made an argent that I will hopefully fly on an f62 and a g79. Then this on a H123 (cert.) then a H128 (Backup Cert). If I can buy a 29mm H motor at the launch I could also use the argent as a 3rd backup.

This build is looking great!
I also love the way you're going with the rail/rod options. I wish I had done that on my Argent, and given it rail buttons, as I think I got some rod whip on the G76.
I also love the motor retention! that's really cool looking, seems like it'll be plenty strong, and seems like it is something that could be had for a lot less than a $30 aeropack:y:

Do you plan on following the stock paint scheme, or doing something different?

Nate

Thanks! My paint scheme for the LOC IV is up there and it is a green nose cone and fins with black body. I am going to try to do the stock paint on the argent.

Oh, so it is- somehow I missed that... It looks really nice, I love the black and green combo!
As for the Argent, what I did ,for the smaller stripes, was to use some orange and black electrician's tape. I don't know how serious you take your finishes, but if time is an issue, that might work.:)

Nate

That's the same colors I'm going to use on my dx3. What kind of paint do you plan on using.

Definitely not an issue. Thanks for suggesting that

I'm planning on using just Krylon or Rustoleum rattle cans. I'm really not too crazy about all the work that gets put into the nice finishes. Since I got the build done so fast I might just go ahead and do the extra work to make it look really nice.

Hey has anybody heard of someone named Mason Hazzard. He emailed me about this thread and has sent me a few emails about designs and other stuff. Just wanted to make sure he was a member and is trusted.

Yep, Mason Hazzard was a former member on here. He is rather interesting.
Look up MasonH on here, you will find him.

Updates??????

Wellllll, Not much has happened. The only structural thing I did was to CA the ends of the tubes. Still haven't got to painting because of the endless snow and cold. I hate not having a workshop or garage :( . Maybe I will prime today since it will get to the 40's. Also I moved my launch date from May to a new date of March 22nd. So it will be soon.

Nice build! Looks like you covered all the bases. Great paint scheme, by the way. I painted mine with Rustoleum fluorescent green and 2X black. What motor are you planning on for your cert flight?

Thanks! Means a lot hearing from you! I plan on flying it with an AT H123W-8 but may fly it on a H148R-8 I ordered both so I will just have to decide on white or red. I believe our LOC IV is what I got m inspiration from.

Did you order them online or are you getting them at a club launch? I didn't know that you could buy 2 I thought you could only buy one. This helps a lot because I plan on using an dark matter motor at URRF but I don't know what the weather is going to be like and if I am going to be able to use it or not if it is dry out. I will order two 1 Dm and one green.thanks

A minor should not be able to order any, much less the one load that is allowed to be possessed by a flyer for certification purposes.

Onebadhawk will be loading them and building it at URRF however I will be the one ordering them from Wildman who will be attending g the launch where teddy will handle and load them for me. Sorry for any confusion.

Personally, I prefer White Lightning over Redline. I like the brighter flame and more smoke from the White. I was going to use my LOC-IV for my Level 1, but ended up using my Minie Magg instead. In fact, the motor I used was an H123W. There was a cert special at the time, and I got the reload for $10.

Yeah What I did was ordered all my reloads ( F62, G79, H148, H123) From red arrow hobbies and had them shipped to my mentor. He will bring them to the launch, I'll fly a few MPR then I will go for my cert. If it is successful I fly the other. If it fails, but can be fixed easy, I fly the other.
