Has anyone here used liquid masks, like these or others?

I want to put stripes onto the onion top nose of Slava Ukraini. I'm speaking of the vertical stripes in this:
I've already painted the part in the underlying green, and plan to use metal leaf for the stripes. My plan is to mask off most of the part then spray the adhesive and rub the leaf on. But I don't know a way to to the masking done well, but I have an idea thatis so crazy it just might work.
What I have in mind is to use narrow tape strips where the stripes will go, then apply liquid mask, then remove the tape. The tape will have been an "anti-mask", blocking the liquid mask from reaching where I want the leaf.
But maybe I'm all wet.
Does anybody have experience with the liquid mask? Secondarily, if that's not the way to go, does anybody have a better idea overall?
