I want to have a little more control over my reload situation so I'm mailing in the Form but I have some questions.

To those who live in Illinois and have gotten their LEUPs, what are the state requirements?

Anybody in Lake County? Do they have any extras?

Thanks

John

Well,
I've no replies to this but I do have smoe information. The fire district had no problems with my having a magazine but said to double check with the village code gouys. I still have to do that.

The state says if I plan to use something on the Federal explosives list I need to have the "one size fits all" license for the State. The details are from an e-mail I received the other day.

John: To obtain an Illinois Explosives Llicense, one must submit to a
background check. This is accomplished by having your fingerprints
taken electronicaly and a background check performed by the Illinois
State Police and the FBI. Some firms in Illinois that do this are:

Art's Investigations .....................
866-361-9944
Identix Fingerprinting Systems .........
800-377-2080
The Firm ................................
866-721-1203
A + Fingerprinting Inc. ...............
815-727-2244

If you are interested in obtaining a license, call one of these and you
can schedule to have your fingerprints taken. When you do this,
make sure that you explain that it is for the "Illinois Explosives
License." They will forward your fingerprints to the State Police and
the FBI and we usually receive your background check in our Springfield
Office in less than a week.

To complete your license "experience", you will be required to take an
exam concerning the safe use and handling of explosives. We administer
this exam. The dates for the next exams are October 9 and December 4,
both at 9:00 AM. The exam is scheduled to be given in Ottawa, IL.
Ottawa is located at exit 90 on I-80. It is approximately 2 hours from
Rockford or Chicago, IL. Once you exit I-80, go south on Rt. 23 till
you reach Rt. 6 (Norris Drive). Turn right (west) and go about 1.5
miles and turn left (south) on Boyce Memorial Drive. Go over two (2) RR
tracks and the building is about 600 more yards on the right, just past
the entrance to US Silica. The actual address is 647 Boyce Memorial
Drive, Ottawa, IL 61350.

At the exam, you will complete an application. The fee for the three
year license is $75.00, and can be in the form of a personal check or
money order payable to " Illinois Department of Natural Resources . You
will need to bring two (2) color, head and shoulder photos about 1" x
1.5". The exam starts with a review that lasts about 1.5 - 2.5 hours.
We will cover everything you will see on the exam several times. The
exam is 50 questions, multiple choice and true/false. 80% is passing.
It usually takes about 20 minutes to complete.

My telephone number is listed below. The link below will allow you to
access the Illinois Explosives Act and the Regulations. Let me know if
you have any further questions.

John,

I live in Ottawa (lucky for me :D). I had left Barry a message a while back about this test as I had some questions. Looks like you gave me the information I needed about location and dates.

Do you have any idea what exactly this license achieves? If you have this explosives license, is an LEUP still needed in IL for rocket propellant? From what I have been reading, I did not arrive at that conclusion, but I could be wrong. "Illinois explosive license" sounds like it may be the all-around license enabling you to handle high-explosives as well as low-explosives, as it is what a blaster needs. Not sure about storage though. I'm personally a little confused because I haven't been able to actually speak with a representative about this license or available IL licenses.

Any info would be appreciated.

The Illinois license is for everything provided you get the the Federal licenses also. One type for the state, many flavors for the feds.
