I have a some 30 year old AT reloads. They include a small braided cord that is about 1.25" long. What is this?20230911_193957.jpg

Yep, that’s thermalite.

@dshmel, which reloads do you have?
+1 thermalite slow (pink wrap)
Thermalite medium burn (green wrap)
Thermalite fast (white wrap)

Slow is best for igniting motors, used to be set with flash bulbs alot back in the day but it is great for clusters and air starts with an e-match to start it
 
Thermalite. The wires are iron. remove 3 or 4 leaving 1 or 2, wrap lead wires around the stick. Gets so crumbly the pyrogen falls off :( after a few years in the magazine. :(
Regulated, need ATF license. Use more for larger motor (about 6" for a L750). What you see is for 29 mm motors.
