How to make the XMen Jet?

How do you think the best way to scratch build a replica of the X-Men jet would proceed? I'm thinking something similar to an upscale of the Estes SR51 model. The version from the last movie installment has a longer shape than a plane and larger fin areas. I'm wondering about how to make the compound shapes with the minimum weight.

I suppose you could make cardstock "shrouds" like the ones Sunward uses on its fighter jet-style rockets...
