This thread is STILL active? I would have thought that the difference between Mach 3 (or 4 or 5) straight up and Mach 25 in a specific, difficult, controlled trajectory would have been apparent some time ago.

As long as we're dreaming, I think I'll dream about a nuclear-powered rocket fueled by monatomic hydrogen ("single-H"). Just as likely to come to fruition. Does ProPEP handle single-H?

My collection of deuterium and tritium is slowly accumulating in my stack of recycled NiMH batteries. Once I've collected enough refrigerator magnets, I'll build a tokamak. After that, it's easy!

As a bonus, the hydrogen fusion rocket engine will provide enough helium for party balloons and funny voices on the long trip to Proxima Centauri. And don't forget to inflate your beachball aliens (Dark Star film reference).
