Some of you might be aware of the practice of "War Driving"...finding WiFi wireless access points (usually to home networks connected to the Internet) by driving around with PC equipment and mapping unprotected access points.

Well, fellow rocketeers, it seems as if the hacker community, not content to use autos for their nefarious purposes, have branched out into *our* hobby:

Does anyone know any further details of the rockets used in this article? Was this covered by some earlier thread in TRF and I just missed it?

Geez...the *last* thing we need in the hobby...any more bad publicity or additional negative perception from the public... :(

Ok, so next time I see a rocket contrail on the horizon, I will change my password on my wireless router!

I still say they can get more information about you by digging through your garbage!

But yes, unrestricted/unpassworded wireless networks are a no-no! Where I live, I can get on about a dozen networks and the owner NOT even know. Reception is slow and flaky, but I can get on.

Problem is that you don't know what is attached to that network, and it could be trouble for you in the form of viruses or even criminal activity. Say they are moving child porn around ... your system might get logged or cached and next thing you know law inforcement might be breaking down your door and arresting you... just not worth it in my opinion.
