What did you do rocket wise today?

This is the first day since my surgery that I have felt strong enough to do some actual hands on work. I sanded and marked the centering ring/fin pocket locations on the 98mm motor tube for my 1/2 scale Nike smoke.

I worked on my 5" Jart and figured out a pretty cool nose cone av-bay. First flight next weekend along with a first flight of my 2 stage Darkstar..... Better get working on that one too!!

What did you come up with for your cone? I've been mulling over the same thing - foamed the fin can of the Jart today.

Glad you're feeling better buddy!

Did some initial testing on my curing oven and then finally put the first coat of primer-filler on three small FG rockets I have had hanging around building for various lengths of time.

I just discovered that the diameter of the forged eye bolt I installed on my 54mm motor mount for a 4" motor tube is too large to fit through the jaws of a 1/4" quick link. Looks like I'll either be tying on the shock cord or using a stainless 3/16" quick link.

You should be able to widen the opening a little bit without compromising it's strength - file or belt sander (with clearance on both sides of the belt).

Got to talk to a lot of folks both today and yesterday, about model rocketry, and my local club. A local Community College sponsors a "Tech-Fest" each year to help promote STEM and our club had a booth.

Excellent :)

L1 achieved (Loc cyclotron with H180)

Congrats!!

I've been working on my 10" Art Applewhite saucer that I received for my Secret Santa!! It's coming along very nicely & looking forward to flying it!!

Since I'm working with epoxy anyway, (fillets on my Estes Ventris,) I added some BBs to the nose cone of my Vector G-XL. Hopefully it will be enough to compensate for the stubby fins. I was hoping to grab an hour at B6-4 Field, but it was too cold despite the bright sunshine.:eyeroll:

I got another coat of primer and spot putty on the Duke's fincan. That poor old rocket was pretty beat up after it's last separation.Talked Sharon into letting me use one of her couplers for my avbay project and made some progress on it. Then she got a wild hair and decided to start on her Squat! So I helped her build the fincan. We added another eyebolt to the upper CR so we could "Y" the kevlar to the top of the body tube. I added some little blocks to the CR's so I could hit them with the rail button screws. Stuck the fins in and pulled the lower CR to do internal fillets. Sharon is really good at fillets, inner and outer done in one evening. Then glued the lower CR in and that rocket is almost done. We might build an avbay in the N/C when we foam in the nose weight, still kicking that idea around some. Never used a cable cutter, so I will have some research to do for that....

That's an idea that might be worth pursuing as the quick-link ~almost~ fits. The downside is that I use stainless and it's tough to take material off. At my age, patience is a virtue I no longer value.

Repaired the hi flier xl and hornet and they are now ready to be repainted...

Sanded and laid down some primer on the aspire... should be readh to paint tomorrow

Have good Open Rocket files of Leviathan, Piranha, Estes Phoenix, Cherokee D, older Sizzler that I need to rebuild. Glued on Rocketarium retainer on Phoenix MMT, glued on top centering ring of Piranha(helps to sand those, popped loose after last glue....live and learn).

Re-worked my Thor RockSim design with new Balsa Machining parts and dimensions and decided on sticking with E-9 mains.

Played with icing today and filled a repair job on my tubefin rocket. I also sanded the black fingerprints off the body tube from all the times I launched it without a clear coat over the fluoro pink which happens to be a matte finish. Looks like I'll be painting after the rainy weather tomorrow goes away.

went with my club today to launch some rockets (i didn't launch anything but they did) and we had a TON of trouble with the motors igniting (all aerotech e15w-4) and the one motor that did light, the rocket flew but only the booster sections parachute deployed (i told one of the members of the team how to properly pack the parachute, he only packed the booster, his other team member packed the payload sections chute, and wrapped the shroud lines and shock chord too many times around the chute...i expected his teammate would have show the other teammate how to do it properly but i was wrong... oh well, destroyed the transition and shattered the egg, i'm glad the altimeter was ok.)

Said DONE to the Rocketry Warehouse Formula 98.
Custom cut some vinyl. Applied. And coated with Future.

Picked up a Estes v2, found a scale model to go off of online and cut the tabs and caps off the boat tail! Can't wait to build this rocket!

cant tell if im high on life or high on paint... probably the later since i have been painting most of the day... couldn't pass up the awesome weather and needed to get paint down on the aspire hornet and hi flier xl... it was a good day

What did you come up with for your cone? I've been mulling over the same thing - foamed the fin can of the Jart today.

I made the nose coupler an AV-Bay:

- No glue assembly

- Threaded rod through the tip and ALL the way down to a forward bulk-plate on the forward end of the coupler. Wing nut to hold in place. (lock nut on the forward side to keep proper height)

- (2) Threaded rods through the av-bay (bolted in top side) and wing-nutted to the aft bulk plate.

- Vent holes low on the coupler and one vent hole lined up with a switch.

- Unfortunately, this design leaves me only able to fly 4 grain motors. Because it is all "no glue", I will be making a second bay with a motor mount extension "donut" style like the Gizmo XL.

- I have 2 pounds of removable weight to add to the tip for the Drag Race at Thunderstruck (5k on K2045's)
