The painting hasn't just begun, it just got finished up!

If you expand the picture showing that the 3M painters blue tape has been removed, you'll see the paint blead thru in places. This happend even tho the edges were completly rubbed down.

For getting a really clean color seperation line, I use Tamiya (the yellow tape) tape. Blue tape is used to fill in an area that needs to be masked off.

Welcome to my world. Lately, I've been getting much better results from delicate surface blue tape.

I've found that to be the case myself and go about it in the very same way. It's a winning technique.

How soon do you unwrap? I've been giving it from zero to ten or fifteen minutes—depending on the viscosity of the paint/color. Sooner is better from my experiences.

I clicked my heels together three times and repeated "Theres no tape like Tamiya tape"...

And 'POOF', look at these clean color seperation lines!

Yes, it's a winning combination. After the edges of the tamiya tape are rubbed down (I use the blunt side of a toothpick) there is no need to squirt a light coat of the base color to prevent bleed thru. You can squirt the accent color straight away.

The paint I use, Krylon, sets very fast and the masking could be removed after about 10 - 15 minutes if one were inclined to do so. The paint would still be in a semi plastic state during this time frame.

I love the Tamiya masking tapes. I also like the Tamiya spray paints too. The bad part is this stuff is laquer based, that means it bleeds like crazy. I have been known to use the flat blade of a screwdriver to push the tape down to seal it.

Painting completed.

Stellar! Hmm... how about that! If you like this rocket, your gonna really like the next one.

Beautiful, meticulous (and innovative) build and finish—as usual. Any chance of a 'whole' rocket shot?

Thank you for the positive input and taking the time to post.

That 'shot' can be arranged for the very near future. A prediction of mid 1Q13 deserves a lable of 'redundant'.

Your stressing me out man..now I have to go eat turkey.Everyone have a safe and stuffed Thanksgiving:)

OK, on that one if I go to max resolution and squint for a minute I can BARELY see the decal line!

For the record, I'm envious of your building skills, and your build photography skills... :cool2:

That's funny 'cause the last time I was at the Air Force Museum in Dayton I noticed that on all the missiles there was a very distinct "decal line" on all of the markings.

Obviously the military does not use Solveset.:eyeroll:

And a launch shot. When is it scheduled to fly?

and Thanks for the tip on Tamiya tape. Never been happy with 3M. (I've used Tamiya paints, but never considered their tape before now. They should give you a kickback.)
