I love it when Christmas comes early. My Richter Recker arrived today. When I opened the box....I felt like I was nine years old again on a Christmas morning. Oh baby, I can hardly wait to build this.:headbang:

The RR is always a big hit at our launches. Even with the 40% coupon she is a bit pricy to fly as the E9's just evaporate from the motor stocks. A great photo opportunity off the pad so be sure to paint her up nice!

Have fun with it! I've loved that rocket for years and the E9's give it such a *nice* flight :)

I began building it this weekend. I have all the basic sub assemblies together and am ready to fill roll seams on the lower tube assembly and then add the fins. (If we have a blizzard tomorrow as predicted...I can build some more. :D) I have a question, would it be advisable to add a little bit of weight in the nose to prevent drift on recovery, or is the top assembly heavy enough not to worry about this? I have to say, I've really enjoyed this experience and really look forward to the end product.

Here are few images of the build thus far. I purchased X-Type chutes from Top Flight Recovery to replace the kit chutes. My wife was nice and sewed the swivels and coupler into the shock cords for me. I really love the fact that you are required to cut out your own fins with this kit as well as with the Mako. It makes it a lot more fun and I dunno..more nostalgic I guess. I finished sanding the airfoils onto all the fins last night. I've downloaded the roll patterns as well as the other decal set. I think I'll paint her in the dark red-black scheme ( I really like the looks of it) and maybe a bright yellow at the very base for tracking. Since my wife is taking her students to Italy in a week, I'll have lots of build time on my hands so hopefully I'll have finish photos by the end of the month.

Looking great so far! I liked the dark red/black scheme as well so that's what I did on mine. Decals are from stickershock, as well as the paint masks to do the scallops.

I was going to make the decals for this one but I was waiting for the OK from Jim.

Since we were suppose to have a blizzard yesterday (it fizzled) I closed the library and had... um...spare time on my hands. I finished the body tube assemblies and the motor assembly (still drying). At this rate, I'll have it all finished but the paint job before my wife leaves for Italy...Then what?

Although it's the perspective, I love how it is at the BOTTOM of the steps yet still looks to be as tall as the top of the door... :)

Me too!

And then there's this. It's too bad that the moon wasn't a little fuller.

May I copy this to the gallery?

So, I say that I plan on doing the dark red scheme. I go to Ace, look for the perfect shade of red and come up with....are you ready? Burgundy. I know what you're thinking...so did I at first. The problem with buying paint and hoping that the cap color is a true representation of the paint color...Well, it's just poor methodology for choosing paint. So, I shoot the base coat and I'm thinking "Man, this seems awfully purplish." However, as it dried it became darker and darker and took on that maroon-ish hue I was looking for. So, okay, it still seems a bit on the purple side, but I wonder how it'll look contrasting with the black...A happy accident. I'll post some pics next week some time. Hopefully it'll cure-out enough that I can mask it and airbrush the scallops over the weekend.

She's finished! Now all I need is a wind-less, snow-less, fog-less, day to get some shots of her. The burgundy color in the end didn't turn out too shabby. It darkened up nice and gave me the hue I was looking for. The scallops...well, I didn't do them. My masking tape wasn't narrow enough to make those tight curves, ( and forgot to print off the masks that were available) so I just settled with what I settled with. I'll have some pics up soon.

Sorry for the reflection. The wind refuses to abate and so I brought her to work so I could get a shot of her. I'm happy with how she turned out. No scallops, but I guess. I can't wait to see her fly.

My wife won't let me build a rocket that long. Says we would have to cut a hole in the ceiling! But it looks great what is the altitude approximations on it?

Andrew

The last photo really gives it some perspective as to how long it is. NICE
