I fixed the runnies tonight, and took advantage of the massive spray booth at the high school my TARC team meets to finish the white base coat.

Here is a photo of the masking in preparation for spraying the nose and top of the tube light gunmetal.

Kevin the fins are nice as Scott mentioned. I like the add on pieces up front a la the iniatator. The basic outline reminds me of the red max. How long is the main body ? Is is longer then the big daddy tube ? Maybe you'll get it done before the club launch a week from Sat. Hoping for some good weather !

Rocket Inspiration !

I got the "Fresh Salmon" Krylon for your next assignment. You may select one more color for primary coverage and as many as you like for detailing. Have you had any thoughts yet ? Silly Putty Rocket ? Fish out of Water ?

Many of my scratch builds seem to end up with fins similar to the Red Max. They are not a direct scale up of the Red Max fins though, they are a little smaller than if they were direct scaled. Add to that the fact that fin strakes are just sexy and you get this fin shape. :)

The tube is 19" long. Not sure how a Red Max would scale up to a 4" tube. I chose that length because it's about the size of the Maxi V-2 (nose, tube and tailcone).

Well, I still have some masking and painting to go before I add the decals. I can't promise that I'll get it done this weekend. I'm having some issues with my housemates and paint smells, so I may have to either make a fume extractor before I do any more or wait until next Wednesday to paint the next color.

Oh here's the progress from tonight. Shiny. :)

While that's a great suggestion Craig, it would really force me to repaint the rocket black and gold. I'll have to keep looking for a different way to have a rocket with a heavy egyptian theme.

Meanwhile, the first two decals have been placed on my rocket. And it only took me three tries!

I added the next two decals to the other side, but changed the layout slightly so each side will have a different composition.

All my decals are on the rocket! Yay! Just have to let them dry a couple of days and add some gold paint work and it'll be time for the Future.

One nice advantage that Scott has, is that if he thinks his rockets need an extra decal or three, he runs upstairs and makes 'em. I didin't want to take too much advantage of his ALPS, so my rocket has fewer of them, but they are nice and bold. ;)

Ya know... I was gonna take a break for a while after this Deuce I'm building... But that thing looks so good, the colors compliment each other perfectly... Sigh, so much for a break:rolleyes:.

These are very cool looking rockets and, no question, the creative use of decals really set them apart!

This has been a fun thread to follow :) Thanks!

Thanks Jim. Without Scott and his printer this wouldn't have been half as nice.

I really need to find my charger for my good camera and take some decent photos to do justice to the model.

They still came out nice. The rocket looks great! love the decals and the colors... ah and those sexy "fins"!!! :)

I was convinced to add a decal to a fin so am waiting for the processing work to be done, then I will add it and use future.

I used a gold paint pen to flow the gold swoosh outlines down along the border of the white and purple fin separation lines. Looks nice. Still looking for my camera charger.

ps- and no the decal for the fin is not Anubis.

Make sure you give yourself a coat of Future . Decals stick to glossy surfaces better... :D :p BTW how much for the show?

It depends on how long I have to wait for your to get there before I can put the decal on. The longer I wait the more you have to buy from the shop. :)

I found one of my camera chargers last night, so here's a slightly better photo of my Valkyrie.
